Spray some either into the intake while someone is cranking the engine. If it starts temporary and then quits, it is definitely a fuel problem. Check your fuel pump.

The way you describe this problem the cause seems to be in the fuel system losing pressure. But even then, if you crank long enough it should start. Check your fuel pressure. It may be useful to check your fuel filter.

MY opinion is the fuel pump pressure is low and allowing vapor in the lines that dissapates over time. But when you make short trips the fuel does not let the vapor out.

Engine turns over but won't start

Have you checked if it is fuel or spark related? Did it die while you were driving it? When did it happen? Does it have gas? I know that sounds dumb, but stranger simplier thing have happened. Timing chain?, Distributer gear worn due to worn cam? fuel pump?

This is an indication that the fuel system is losing prime. It might be because the injectors are not sealing when the engine is off and the gasoline is syphoning back to the tank.
