I have a 93 F150 Lightning. Fuel pumps between tanks and willoverflow the other. Does my truck have a swiyhover valve or check valves?

A check of fuel system parts for your model turns up a "distributor check valve" and a "fuel tank selector valve." The check valve is disk-shaped, with hose fittings coming out of the center of each side. One side of the disk is white and the other side is black. Make sure you note which way it is oriented in the line if you change it.

The fuel tank selector valve is operated by the tank selector switch.

If you do not have any separate check valves in the system, see if your vehicle is subject to a recall. I see on some other sites that there was a problem with the fuel regulator returning excess fuel to the front tank only, causing it to eventually overflow if the front tank is not used from time to time. The check valve is supposed to help with that problem. There is also a recall on the fuel pressure regulator - if it fails, it can damage the check valve in one of the fuel pumps, allowing unwanted fuel transfer. I've included a link to a listing of recalls for your vehicle - do a page search (Ctrl-F or Command-F) for "fuel." In particular, you should look up recall # 93V125000.

Have water in fuel Suzuki xl7 how do I drain the tank

no year, huh? some years have a check valve , there,....
this forum is for usa cars, is car USA car?
the tanks just dont like siphoning. (check valve)
the FSM covers this , in the fuel section under bad pump.
1998 to 2006, ill guess, 06

i have the FSM and does not cover. bad fuel, no drain plug.

it shows how to get fuel lower, in filler neck
the tank has check valve at it its metal neck.
so inserting a hose in filler, will hit this check valve.
and all you get out , is 1/2 fuel.
id use the tank out procedure.
then empty all fuel, after step 5.
quote:
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Relieve fuel pressure in fuel feed line.
  3. Due to absence of fuel tank drain plug, drain fuel tank by pumping fuel out through fuel tank filler.
  4. Use hand operated pump device to drain fuel tank.
  5. Remove fuel tank.

tip tank to drain the remainder. out

here is one more way. (IDEA!)
do 1-4
then tip car to left. Jacks then stands at frame.
then remove the filler hose on tank
remove that pesky check valve. from neck last.

and pump out the rest.

2003 chevy tahoe won't start if it has been sitting for a few days. it will start fine if it has been running the same day, otherwise it takes over 10 tries to start. just changed the fuel filter and the...

The problem is the fuel pump. The fuel pump assembly located in the fuel tank has a one way check valve in it. This check valve either jams or wheres out and then the fuel drains back into the tank after sitting for a period of time and makes the truck almost impossible to start. If the truck runs fine once it is started then this is your problem. To verify the problem purchase a fuel pressure gauge kit and connect it to the fuel rail, turn the key to the on position but do not start it the pressure shopul read around 56 PSI or more. Turn the ignition off and let the truck sit for approx 2 to 3 hours and recheck the pressure gauge if it has dropped then the check valve is no good and you have to replace your fuel pump.

Where is the fuel transfer valve on a dual tank 1993 Ford F150 located?

From what I can find out Ford did not use a fuel transfer valve in 1992. They ran both pumps to a common fuel line and used one way check valves to keep one pump from filling the other tank while keeping the entire fuel system pressurized. Your tank selector switch is actually switching pumps off and on, not a transfer valve. The problem Ford had was the one way valves failing causing one of the tanks to overflow. They have an external one way valve kit to solve this problem, but the valves are about $85.00 each.

When ifueling is throuing outside

You have a bad roll over valve. The valve is stuck closed and is causing this to happen. Hyundai has an updated part that can be purchased at the dealership that will solve this problem. You will need to lower the fuel tank to gain access to this valve for replacement though.

My 1989 f250 has dual tanks, it only wants to pull gas from the rear tank and the return fuel fills the front tank. we have replaced the dash switch and the pump twice. it seems to work for a short time...

Make sure you have the check valves in place on the lines at the sending units on the tanks. If the switching valve on the frame rail goes bad it can push fuel back up the return to the opposite tank than you are pulling from causing fuel to push up and out the inlet. If these were not removed and replaced on the new sending units they will have to be purchased from the dealer.

Either the fuel line from the front tank to the switching valve is plugged or kinked, or the valve is not moving all the way to that tank (if electrically switched). Pull the hose (from that tank) off at the valve--do you get good fuel flow? If the front tank is lower than the valve, try switching the fuel lines from the two tanks at the valve, and set the switch for the rear tank. If it now runs, clean the valve or replace it.

Could it be the Fuel Pump?

It could be the anti-drain back valve (check valve) is stuck or it could be the Walbro fuel pump which is known to be good up to the 80,000 to 120,000 mile range. The banging on the tank trick working usually means fuel pump.
The typical symptom of a fuel pump check valve failure is extended cranking time during startup. What generally occurs here is that the check valve in the fuel line sticks open causing lack of fuel pressure. This usually occurs after the car has been sitting for a while or overnight. The fuel pressure leaks down causing the fuel pump to have to work very hard to push the fuel from the tank to the fuel rail. The symptom is similar to vapor lock but not quite. The solution to this is to replace the fuel pump check valve which can be difficult in itself. Be very cautious when attempting this repair because of the dealing with the fuel system and this always presents a potential FIRE HAZARD!!!!!!!
NOTE: When doing this job, be careful. If you break the link with no check valve in the fitting you will have to replace the entire fuel line because Saab does not offer the fitting by itself. Being a "Bull in a china shop" would not be a good idea here. If you break the valve you can replace the valve by itself only if you purchase the complete line and remove the valve from the new line and install it in the old line. They valves become brittle over time and can easily break when removing the fuel pump.
Fuel pump failures often cause the engine to buck when going up hills or just quit completely. You can test the fuel pressure using a fuel pressure gauge. The pressure should about 40 PSI (approximately). The location of the pump depends on which car you have. On the later model 900, 93, 95, and 97X the fuel pump is located in the fuel tank and the tank must be removed to replace it.

F-250 FUEL PROBLEM

Hi, My brothers 250 had the same problem and is now fixed. The fuel pump in each tank has a check valve that allows the fuel to run in one direction only. When this valve fails to close fuel runs into that tank when the other pump is running. We replaced the pump and all is well. Dan
