Coming out of the trans, If it is slow, You have pump problems. And if the pump isn't putting out pressure, nothing will work on the inside. If it comes slowly from the radiator, the cooler is clogged up. This will cause overheating of the trans, and over time will burn the clutches. When you disconnect a trans cooler lines, the fluid will shot across the room in a steady stream.

Is there a thermostat for the facotory installed transmission cooler ?

No
transmission coolers are in the radiator tank and are maintained at temperature by the coolant thermostat
there will be a flow restriction in the fitting so that the transmission oil flow is slowed down to allow the heat transference

When i go over 70 mph my dodge caliber slows down and temperature light comes on for the transmission

STOP USING IT NOW before you ruin the trans
& have the transmission systems tested

A sticking pump valve or sticking valve body piston
& you loose cooler out flow & thus the overheated trans
fluid & very very soon the trans fails, very soon

What is flow direction of transmission fluid adding a cooler

normally external coolers dont have a flow direction on them that I have ever seen.. you just mount it up front and attatch the lines and go...if there is a flow indicator(tho I cant imagine why) then I would see which line bleeds monentarily on startup and shutdown, and connect it accordingly...

What is the 2002 olds alero(2.2 Litre with the 4t40) transmission fluid capacity after changing the transmission out completly. I am talking the torque converter and the pan+filter. Full Service. thanks...

It should hold between 10-13 qts It all depends on how big of cooler you have and if the lines, cooler, and torque converter are completely drained. Heres a tip before you start the car take the tranny lines off the tranny and take a 6'(it dont have to be exactly 6") long rubber hose that fits tight on 1 of the tranny lines. Slide it over the line and clamp it on there, take a pick, nail, screw or anything that will make a small hole. Make a hole in the rubber hose about 2" from the tranny line. Get 1 or 2 cans of brake clean put the straw from the brake clean in the hole you made and put an air blower in the other end of your hose. start spraying the brake clean and the air blower at the same time and keep spraying till it is flowing clear out of the other tranny line. Make sure your flowing through the cooler and not the tranny. By doing this you get all the crappy tranny fluid from the old tranny out of the lines and cooler. Watch your eyes it burns very bad if you get brake clean in them. WEAR GOOGLES OR SAFETY GLASSES!!!! Goodluck, Kyle

I have a 2 speed powerglide transmission in a dragster, It recently overheated -what we do know is the synthetic oil is burned, the cooler is not clogged, the car ran the same time it always does....does...

check the temperature difference after a run between the inlet of the oil cooler and the outlet. A high difference means that there is not enough flow passing through the cooler the oil gets more time to cool but there is not enought oil getting cool. It could be caused by a worn trans. pump, to much leak in the torque or elsewhere in the tranny, a defective torque outlet valve,or something is blowing up.

1999 ddodge 1500 360 transmission and brake light

red brake light on, low fluid in resovior or park swicth is grd , trans light is on but you didnt say if it's trans or eng over heating, I wil assume it's trans, chech fiter in pan and cooler flow, possible restriction, remove rear cooler line to back of trans left side , stick a hose on it, put trans in nuetral, and start eng , should empty the fluid of trans in about 1 minute, nice good flow, jaust a trickle and you have a blocked cooler or lines. GOOD LUCK RDJRP

Likely have a restriction in cooler flow. The radiator has a tank built into it that cools the trans fluid,if it's restricted, the fluid flow will also be restricted.Disconnect cooler RETURN line, after the radiator, and put into a gallon jug.Have a helper start the vehicle with the selector in NEUTRAL,and measure cooler flow after the radiator. It should be minimum 2 quarts (1/2 gallon) in 20 seconds.Good luck.
