Have a lincon mark eight that over heated and is steaming from were heater core is and losing water but no leak what two hoses do i bypass with

Don't see a leak because the water is turning to steam and evaporated it will be easier to get fixed

SOURCE: Heater core burned out and I want to bypass the coolant hoses.

Without knowing your car specifically I can suggest the generic way to do it. Locate the two heater hoses going into the firewall, probably on the passenger side. They're the ones that get hot and are about an inch + in diameter. Disconnect. Measure the inside diameter of the hose and purchase a short piece of galvanized or copper pipe (6 inches) at Home Depot. Connect both ends of the hoses to the pipe to form a loop. Secure the hoses so they don't land some place that would cause a problem.

I had this problem on an 85 Tbird. I had heard about a product called Bars Leak and tried it. It worked. No leaks and I kept my heater. You should be able to find it at any parts place at less than $10. Ground black pepper also has worked for me.

You can bypass the core or fix it that's up to you but I would change or remove the thermostat first. If it still overheats then start looking at the water pump and radiator. Hope this helps. Good luck.

be sure you have no coolant leak and check if you have a blead valve on the engine for the coolant if you do, blead the air out

Yes it can be done. look at your engine on it there will be two heater hoses coming from the engine to the heater, disconnect those two heater hoses at engine, with heater hose and two hose clamps, get the hose and clamp first at auto parts, install one end and the other end of same hose, where you disconnected the heater hoses from the engine, you have just by-pass the heater, hope this was very helpful.

I just put a bypass hose on my 91 Buick lasbre and turn on the heat and started seeing steam come out the vents and now its steam on my windshield


Sounds like you have a bad heater core or you have antifreeze leaking in the into the heater box. Maybe a loose clamp on the bypass hose or maybe you damaged the heater core tube when you installed or removed the bypass hose and now it is not sealing properly.

Water Leak


Most likely problem is a leaking heater core. This is what usually causes water leaking into the passenger compartment. Quick fix on many vehicles is to get a hose adapter the same internal diameter as the heater hoses, remove the heater hoses from the firewall connection to the heater core, and install the adapter, making a bypass loop. This will allow operation of the vehicle without coolant loss until you can replace the heater core. Of course you will have no heat in the passenger compartment during this time.

No heat and both the radiator and thermostat are new.


There are a couple of possibilities....

1. The heater core has been bypassed. If the core was leaking someone may have looped the heater hose back on itself. Check to ensure that the supply and return heater hoses are in place and properly routed to the firewall.

2. The heater core may be clogged. Age does a lot as does old coolant to clog up a heater core. To check the core disconnect the heater hoses at the block. Blow through one hose and see if you can get coolant/air to pass through the core. You can raise one hose higher than the other and pour water through or use low-pressure air as well. If the core is clogged, it may be possible to unclog it using a diluted drain cleaner. Pour the diluted cleaner into both hoses and let sit for a time, then flush with clear water. This may take several attempts. If it works it will save much time and expense. The unfortunate downside is that there is also the possibility of generating a core leak this way. But considering that if you hadn't tried you would have to replace the core anyway, you have nothing really to lose.

3. The blend door in the heater control box may be stuck and not letting air pass thru the core to heat the cabin. This one is hardder to verify.

Heater leaking anti freeze inside car and making steam with heater off


Heater core is leaking, Turning heat off does not stop water flow through heater core, it only diverts air away from it.

Defrosting vent is steaming out and smells like anti freeze. would it be heater core


It sounds like it, feel the rug on the passenger side if its wet then that will confirm a heater core problem.

My heater not working, i replaced thermostat and radiator hoses, had radiator flushed and rodded, and still no heat. What is wrong?


Too much blockage in heater hoses or heater core.
Bypass valve may be stuck on "bypass" .

1. Remove bypass "Tees", but don't discard.
Replace with straight-through hose fittings.
The core may start leaking under the water pressure since there is no bypass hose.

Once the heater starts working, put Tees back in place. You need bypass protection or the engine will overheat.

When you bypass the heater core the path for the water to go through the core is gone. Correct?, you have connected to engine water line out to the engine water input? thus bypassing the heater core........


No, you just won't have water flow through the heater core, Coolant flows through the engine through the lower radiator hose as the water pump sucks it out of the radiator and pushes it through the engine. It then flows out the top radiator hose when the thermostat opens. It then flows into the radiator to cool off.

Your heater core has corroded through. You need a new heater core. You may be able to get by temporarily, with bypassing the heater core hoses, located in the engine compartment. These hoses carry coolant heated from the engine, to the heater core. You remove the hoses from the core, and put a pipe in the middle, connecting the two hoses together using hose clamps.

Should there be a cool morning, or if you need the defroster, you won't have warm air. Just a temporary fix.

Where are the heater core hook ups


The heater core is located on the passenger side of the vehicle. If this has been bypass the core is surely leaking. The heater core pipes should be visible from un der the hood, passenger side of vehicle towards the firewall. keep me posted, and keep an eye on that heater core, there is reason for the prior owner not to have heat.

Sounds like the heater core (a small radiator of sorts under the dash) is leaking or a hose going to it is leaking. If in a warm climate, you could bypass or block the heater hoses temporarily. Their only purpose is to make heat avail to interior of car. The 2 heater hoses either connect to feedthru's at the firewall or simply pass thru the firewall to the heater core. Every car I've seen has it on passenger side.

Peer up under the dash, it should be clear where it's coming from.
