It's inside the gas tank. Look for an inspection cover under the back seat.

SOURCE: fuel gauge does not work is it my fuel pump

Nope, it's your fuel pump. If it's stuck in one place and doesn't move at all than yes, it is the floater, but if it fluctuates and tells you that you're empty most of the time than it is, in fact, your fuel pump itself. That fix will be about 130 for the fuel pump, and about the same for the labor to put it on seeing as how they have to drop the gas tank. If it's the floater than you yourself could drop the tank if you have the tools and a little know-how, and then just dis-lodge the floater and Abra kadabra, it's fixed.

hope it helps.

The fuel sender is with the pump module assy. You say the fuel pump is new, did you replace the fuel module or just the pump? is this a new problem after you replaced it or was it there before? Never replace just the pump.

Fuel gauge is not reading correct and my miles per tank is going up like 289 to start after fueling i drove 5 miles home and now my rang is 3012

These vehicles has problem both with instrument cluster (guage) and fuel sensor(floater) which is part of fuel pump: remove gas tank and move the floater and observe or use you scanner to see if instrument cluster gauge moves accordingly: My personal recommendation is buy a new pump on-line $106.00 and install new gauges as well: on line $120.00 or call me Alex-619-474-2550

All Fuel Pumps are inside the fuel tank

Have to drop the tank down & remove pump
from the top

Been that way for 25 years

First you have to diagnose the real problem
Can't assume the pump is bad

Just bought a fuel regulator for my mercury mystique v6, bought a haynes repair manual, followed it but the fuel regulaor is not where it says it is, any ideas?

How many fuel lines are going to the fuel rail? If there is only one line that you have a later model 2000 and the system is considered return less. This means that the fuel pressure is regulated at the fuel pump before the fuel gets to the fuel rail. If there are two lines going to the fuel rail than the fuel pressure regulator has to be in between one of those lines and the fuel rail

Where is the fuel pump located and how do you replace it on a 2000 grand marquis

On your 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis 4.6L SFI , the Fuel Filter is located: Under vehicle, passenger side, below seating area, passenger side of fuel tank, mounted on frame in fuel line

it is attached to the frame near the rear passenger side door by a hose clamp, so you need a screwdriver to loosen the clamp, and pliers to remove the lines.

Where is the fuel filter located on a 1996 mercury mystic gs

please rate highly - free info

In-Line
NOTE: When replacing the fuel filter (9155), use the fuel filter specified for the engine being serviced.

The in-line fuel filter has the following characteristics:
  • Its purpose is to provide filtration to protect the small metering orifices of the injector nozzle.
  • It is located downstream of the electric fuel pump module and is mounted on the fuel tank.
  • It is a one-piece construction which cannot be cleaned. If it becomes clogged, it must be replaced.

Removal
stp~us~en~file=ani_caut.gif~gen~ref.gif WARNING: BECAUSE OF THE COMBUSTION CHARACTERISTICS OF GASOLINE, ALWAYS USE EXTREME CARE WHEN REMOVING AND INSTALLING ANY FUEL SYSTEM COMPONENT.
  1. Depressurize fuel system using Multi-Port Fuel Injection (MFI) Fuel Pressure Gauge T80L-9974-B as outlined in Service Procedures- Fuel System Pressure Relief. Or disconnect inertia switch and run engine till it stalls. see owner manual for location of switch.
  1. Remove push connect fittings at both ends of the fuel filter (9155) as outlined.
  1. Install retainer clips in each connect fitting.
  1. NOTE: The flow arrow direction should be positioned forward and downward to ensure proper flow of fuel through replacement fuel filter.

Remove fuel filter from bracket by loosening worm gear mounting clamp enough to allow fuel filter to pass through.

did you recently change the fuel pump? If so you needed to change the wire harness thats attached to the fuel pump, then if not, your floater need to be replaced inside your fuel tank.
How do I know? from experience.
