Hi Allon:
Questions with seemingly unrelated components are always intrigueing. What kind of vehicle is this? Many vehicles do not have wiring associated with power steering. so I'd really like to know what wiring connector you are referring to. Give a bit more info and we'll probably find an answer for you.

It is just the broken seal which is causing the fluid to leak, replace the seal to avoid fluid leakage.

I have no power steering and I see a puddle of red liquid on the ground.


Hi,

That red puddle is the fluid that leaks out from your power steering.

There are some possible leakage, it maybe in your powwr steering hose, pump, and rack and pinion.

The only way you could determine where the leakage is to have your car checked by a technician/mechanic.

Try to put some haydraulic fluid in the power steering conatiner, so that you could go to the garage and have them fix it.

I need to know how to take the power steering off a 1997 dodge caravan?


Power Steering Pump-Let me know if you need to take the power steering gear off: Removal & Installation 2.4L Engine To Remove:
  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
    • Remove as much fluid as possible from the power steering fluid reservoir using a siphon pump.
    • Remove the drive belt from the power steering pump.
    • Loosen the nut securing the front power steering pump bracket to the aluminum bracket.
    • Raise and safely support the vehicle.
    • Place a drain pan under the vehicle to catch the power steering fluid.
    • Disconnect the connector from the oxygen sensor at the rear engine mount bracket. NOTE: The exhaust system needs to be moved to allow room for power steering pump removal.
    • Remove the bolts and nuts securing the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold.
    • Disconnect the exhaust system hangers from the brackets. Move the exhaust system rearward and left as far as possible.
    • Raise the heat sleeve to expose the clamp and then disconnect the fluid return hose from the steel tube. Allow the fluid to drain.
    • Remove the accessory drive splash shield.
    • Remove the supply hose coming from the reservoir from the power steering pump. Drain the fluid from the hose.
    • Disconnect the pressure hose from the pump. Drain off excess fluid from the hose.
    • Remove the return hose from the pump. Allow the fluid to drain from the tube.
    • Remove the nut from the rear of the pump to the cast mounting bracket.
    • Loosen the three bolts securing the pump to the front mounting bracket. Then remove the nut and remaining bolt.
    • Remove the power steering pump and the front bracket from the cast bracket on the engine as an assembly through the exhaust tunnel.
    • Remove the three bolts attaching the front bracket to the power steering pump and separate the power steering pump from the front bracket.
To Install:
  1. Install the power steering pump through the exhaust tunnel of the vehicle.
  2. Loosely install the nut on the rear of the pump to hold the pump to the bracket.
  3. Install the front bracket on the pump and install the three bolts loosely.
  4. Install the nut and bolt securing the bracket to the cast bracket.
  5. Tighten the three front bracket-to-pump bolts to 40 ft. lb. (54 Nm).
  6. Connect the pressure hose to the power steering pump. Make sure to inspect the o-ring and replace as needed. Tighten the fitting to 275 in. lb. (31 Nm).
  7. Connect the low pressure return hose to the power steering pump.
  8. Connect the supply hose from the reservoir to the pump. Make sure the hose is not near drive belt.
  9. Install the drive belt and splash shield.
  10. Connect the fluid return hose to the steel tube on the cradle and cover with the heat shield sleeve.
  11. Properly position the protective heat sleeve over the return hose. Secure the heat sleeve with a tie strap to the hose to keep it in place.
  12. Install the exhaust system.
  13. Connect the oxygen sensor wiring connector to the vehicle wiring harness.
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16. Fill and bleed the power steering system.
  17. Check for leaks.
3.0L Engine To Remove:
  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove as much fluid as possible from the power steering fluid reservoir using a siphon pump.
  3. Remove the drive belt from the power steering pump.
  4. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  5. Place a drain pan under the vehicle to catch the power steering fluid.
  6. Disconnect the connector from the oxygen sensor at the sensor wiring harness grommet on the floor pan. NOTE: The exhaust system needs to be moved to allow room for power steering pump removal.
  7. Remove the bolts and nuts securing the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold.
  8. Disconnect the exhaust system hangers from the brackets. Move the exhaust system rearward and left as far as possible.
  9. Raise the heat sleeve to expose the clamp and then disconnect the fluid return hose from the steel tube. Allow the fluid to drain.
  10. Remove the accessory drive splash shield.
  11. Remove the supply hose coming from the reservoir from the power steering pump. Drain the fluid from the hose.
  12. Disconnect the pressure hose from the pump. Drain off excess fluid from the hose.
  13. Remove the two bolts securing the pump to the alternator/power steering pump/belt tensioner bracket.
  14. Remove the pump from the bracket and remove it from the vehicle through the exhaust tunnel on the floor pan.
To Install:
  1. Install the power steering pump through the exhaust tunnel of the vehicle.
  2. Install the pump on the bracket with the two mounting bolts. Tighten the two bolts to 40 ft. lb. (54 Nm).
  3. Install the pump rear support bracket. Tighten the nut and bolts to 40 ft. lb. (54 Nm).
  4. Connect the pressure hose to the power steering pump. Make sure to inspect the o-ring and replace as needed. Tighten the fitting to 275 in. lb. (31 Nm).
  5. Connect the low pressure return hose to the power steering pump.
  6. Connect the supply hose from the reservoir to the pump. Make sure the hose is not near drive belt.
  7. Install the drive belt and splash shield.

  4. Disconnect the connector from the oxygen sensor at the sensor wiring harness grommet on the floor pan. NOTE: The exhaust system needs to be moved to allow room for power steering pump removal.

  6. Disconnect the exhaust system hangers from the brackets. Move the exhaust system rearward and left as far as possible.

power steering should be on the left side with a strange green cap that u have to take off with a screwdriver or pair of pliers

2007 S40 WONT START ''POWER STEERING FAILURE'' CAME ON


The power steering is actually ELECTRIC steering on this car Most common and basically only failure is 2 30 amp fuses in under hood fuse block Only other thing is mechanical and would set a trouble code and sat power steering on your dash. FYI. Jump Starting your car from the +- Terminals found near the FUSE box under the hood, will Blow the Fuses for the Power Steering. Always Jump start your car from the Battery Terminals in the Trunk

Locate the power steering pump and hoses on your vehicle. The power steering pump is located at the front of your engine, near the top of the motor. It will have a black fill cap on it that is labeled "power steering fluid."
1)Clean the outside of the pressurized power steering pump hoses and the power steering pump with clean shop rags to remove any oil deposits. Check the exterior of the lines to identify any signs of steering fluid leakage.
2)Start the motor and turn your steering wheel back and forth several times to cause the pressure in the steering pump to build up. Turn the engine off and recheck the hoses for fluid leaks. Examine the power steering pump for any signs of cracks or damage. If your power steering pump is damaged you need to replace it with a new pump by removing the bolts that hold the pump onto the bracket, taking the pump belt off the pulley and disconnecting the hoses. Replace the power steering pump by reattaching the hoses with a screw clamp and attaching the pump to the bracket. Place the belt around the pump pulley and apply pressure by pulling back on the pump and tightening the belt by using a socket wrench to tighten the bolt on the bracket. You can find a power steering pump for your vehicle at your local automotive.
3)Check the fittings and clamps for any signs of wear or leakage and tighten any loose clamps with a screwdriver. Inspect the hose leading from the power steering pump back into the firewall that leads to the steering wheel. If you find that a leak has developed in the power steering hose that leads to the steering column, consult a mechanic or take your vehicle to a local service center and have an inspection done.
4)Remove damaged power steering hoses by taking the cap off of the power steering pump and then unscrewing the clamp on the hose. Recover draining power steering fluid by placing a clean container below the hose or power steering pump when you loosen the hoses and allow the fluid to drain into the container.
5)Repair power steering hoses where the damaged area is close to the end of the hose by trimming off the affected area with a utility or sharp knife and reattaching the hose with a screw clamp by tightening the clamp with a screwdriver. For damage that is in the middle of the hose or near a section that can't be repaired, replace the hose with a power steering hose that can be purchased from any automotive supply store in your area or online at an automotive supply website, such as the ones listed below in the resources section, and connect the new hose to the power steering pump with a screw clamp.
6)Fill the power steering pump to the proper level with power steering fluid and replace the cap. Start the vehicle motor to test the system. Once you have verified that the power steering system is working properly, shut off the engine.

Whine usually occurs on tight turns maximising pump output and/or pump may be worn and needs replacement. Leakage can be from pump reservor,connection, or power rack and pinion steering assy. Spray off any area with a sign of fluid with a brake clean or carb. cleaner and look for signs of leakage.

There is leakage of fluid from a hose located in between front wheels. The fluid is not oil.


Check the power steering and brake fluid level. Most likely power steering fluid. Should be a simple fix just clean away any old fluid which has leaked then turn the steering recheck the area and see where the new fluid is comming from repair or replace the faulty part

Massive Power steering fluid leakage


You have blown a power steering hose. You'll have to drive it to somewhere to fix it if you can't do it. It shouldn't hurt the pump to drive it for a few minutes, but it's going to be stiff.
