Check for a fuse or relay in the charging circuit or a bad connection on the alternator/battery connections.

New battery not charging after changing the alternator

First make sure both battery cables are free of corrosion and ground is secured to chassis and engine then check to see if theres an alt. fuse or bat. fuse blown. Another way to test charging sys w\out an meter is to remove the ground terminal from the bat. with the car running, if the alt. is good car stays running, if all else fails take the alt and bat to a parts store that will test them for free

All circuits seem good but still won't charge battery

Sometimes new batteries are still bad, it sounds like the battery wont take a charge, go get your new battery tested and go from there.

pull the alternator and have it bench tested where you bought it. about 20% of reman alternators are bad in the box.

Battery light was flashing on dash, alternator was charging intermitently, had alternator tested on car and told diodes were bad.went to get it rebuilt and told its good.I need suggestions on what to check...

There isn't much to the charging system on any vehicle. The belt spins the alt copper binding and creates eletrical current. That current goes directly back to the battery. The other wire goes to the gauge in the dash. I would replace the alt. If you said it was intermittent and it tested good at the rebuild shop who is to say that wasn't one of it good times? Easy way to find out how good it is. While the car is running unhook the possitve terminal from the battery. If its good the car will stay running. If it isn't the car wont.

I have installed 4 reman alt on 1993 gmc suburban still will not charge. the first 3 alt were from small local parts store(cheap) so i took one into a pep boys store in tulsa they tested it and it would...

Sorry to hear about this Dale but I don't believe you have done anything incorrectly. Use your DVOM with key on to check for 12v at the pigtail wire. The main cable should always have 12v but the pigtail should have 12 volts with the key on and or running safer to check with just the key on.Check this out and we can proceed with further instructions.

I HAVE A 2003 TRAILBLAZER IM HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE CHARGING SYSTEM,I CHANGE THE ALTERNATOR BUT IT STILL SHOW THE BATTERY GAUGE LOW CHARGE NEED HELP ON WHAT TO DO

You need to check the voltage at the battery itself, if the battery voltage is indicating in the area of 12.5 - 14.0 volts and your dash gauge does not agree, then the dash cluster has a bad stepper motor which drives the gauge.
If the battery voltage agrees with the dash gauge, and the alternator was changed and is assumed good, you need to check the wires going to the alternator, there may a broken connection.

Alternator test said good, put on car & not charging ,battery test good amp meter decrease`s

Remove and clean battery cables , replace bolts. Check for power going to the alt. it will not charge unless is has power in the connector wire. When alt is tested get them to tell you how many amps it is putting out, not volts. 12 volts will not charge a battery unless you have the correct amount of amps. I had a napa alt and had this trouble twice. The guy said it was good it had over 12 volts output, but it would not charge battery. I fixed mine with a better quality alt. from another store.

Alternator not charging

Check for voltage with a multi meter or volt guage most of the GM trigger wires come from the computer and are only 5 volts. 5 volts is not enough to light some test lights. If still nothing the problem is probably the computer. But it can be manually excited. The two terminals in the alternator on the left of the pigtail (when looking from the front of the van) need + power. the far left is the trigger wire the one next to it is ignition power.

Charging problem, alternator is new

it does not have a relay on the post on the altenator should have battery voltage and with key on should have voltage on the wire in the pigtail with it unplugged if you have that the alt is bad
