"Tighten gas cap" means

  1. That there is an air in-leak somewhere in the vapor recovery system of the car. Hoses and hose connections is a suspect place. So is the electric carbon canister vent valve. OR
  2. It also can mean out of spec gasoline from the discount gas station.
If this was my car I would:
  1. Top up with some decent gasoline.
  2. Have the local shop clear the code and see if it comes back. Maybe do this several times until I am sure all the suspect gasoline is gone.
  3. If it does, and as a last (expensive) resort, have the shop or dealer "smoke test" the emission system for leaks.
Good luck.

Location for 2006 buick rainier EVAP purge solenoid

You should have an EVAP leak test done . It could be a leaking purge valve , you could need a new gas cap as well or it could be the fuel filler neck . or assorted hoses or the fuel tank pressure sensor . If the check engine light is lit there will be a code .
DTC P0442: Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) System Small Leak Detected or
DTC P0455: Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System Large Leak
DTC P0446: Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) Vent System Performance
You have to jack up the vehicle , the purge valve is attached to the engine behind the A/C compressor .

How do you fix po442 code ...evaporative emission system small leak

Most likely this is a gas cap issue. That is always what it is when I get that. Usually all I have to do is tighten the cap down correctly and then reset the code.

Evaporative emission system leak detekted gross leak/no flow

Check first for leaks or worn out lines going to and from the tank. This can also be caused by a bad fuel cap.

At first my gas cap light came on -- I tightened it several times-- now, the engine light is on-- I had someone at Advance Auto check and he said it was an emissions problem-- Can you help me with this?

The code needs to be reset. The code you got was most likely "emission leak medium" this happens if the gas cap is left loose. If the code is reset, and you tightened your gas cap it should not come back. If it does, then get back with me and I can walk you through some steps and parts that will have to be checked, but I am 99% sure its only your gas cap, Happens to me all the time, and I just reset it after tightening my cap. Thanks.

I have honda odyssey and the service engin coms on and the cod is p1456 so ineed to figur out thanks.

This probably means:
  • P1456: Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (Fuel Tank System)
  • Usually this is because your gas cap was not fully tightened. Be sure to turn it until you hear a click.
  • After you tighten the cap, it might take a couple days of driving before the light goes-out.
  • Be careful to tighten your gas cap regularly, because otherwise it puts a heavy strain on your emission system.

Lights keep on coming

They mean you have an Emission Control leak. it could be something as simple as a missing gas cap or a leak at the muffler, Catalytic Converter or pipes.

Google Emissions Control System for your vehichle to get more or less an idea where to look at a diagram of the Emissions Control System. All the codes mean the Computer has detected a leak.

2003 toyota Matrix code p0441 and p0446...need help

p0441 - Evaporative emission control system Incorrect purge flow. can be caused by a lot of things and is usually related to a small leak in the emission control evap system, try replacing the gas cap and see if it helps, if not, the system needs to be tested for a leak with the scantool or a leak tester or both.
usually you will see p0440 p0441 and p0446 together but before anything replace your gas cap and besure to tighten it down when you gas up the vehicle, 90% of the time with those codes either a loose gas cap of bad gas cap gasket is the problem

Otherwise - Might be a canister leak, defective VSV valve or hoses, bad gascap seal.
