Question about Nissan XTrail

Burnt the gasket for my nissan x-trail qr20 engine after it was repaired it started producing an irritating noise somewhere near the timing chain, usually happens when it moves for about 8 km

What could be the making that noise

I am guessing that you have the valve timing set so there is low to no compression. Remove the plugs and check compression. You need min 100 lbs to have the engine run properly. Or if you have a vacuum guage hook it to direct manifold vacuum. With the engine cranking around you should have 1-3 in of vacuum or it will not start. It will smell like gas because the gas keeps enternig the cylinder but not being burnt. then it contaminates the oil.

check power steering pump valves as the noise could be valve vibration from weak control springs
timing chains do not rattle it properly adjusted and the so called rattle could be the injectors/ needles operating correctly

My nissan maxima is making a whinning noise under the hood near the timing chain what do u think the problem is?


first remove the drive belts run engine if noise is gone check pulleys on idler alt ps a/c if noise is still there then you have to remove chain cover and check chain and guides hope this helps

B14 Timing chain problem


there is a tensioner inside the timing chain cover this is probably loosened up and therefore the chain is loose as well . the oly solution is to remove the cover and tighten the tensioner.
