Question about 1997 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

1 Answer

Why do the batteries in both key fobs die within 2 weeks even when replaced with high quality ones?

Is this common? What can we do to remedy this without having to spend $150 for a new fob.

Key fobs only work when the button is pressed so I suspect that the switch may be faulty and is stuck in the pressed position

SOURCE: mercedes 1999 c200 key fob

Hello Haq!
Could it be the key just needs re-coding? maybe you are worrying to much as £177 would be about right as that would need coding etc., Try phoning your local Merc dealer or take the key and V5 to them for coding (Hopefully)
Good Luck!

SOURCE: Mercedes Benz 2002 C Class 180. Key fob batteries

You have to seperate the front of the fob casing by sliding or prising at the side this will then reveal the batteries. You can get replacement batteries from most garages or your MB dealer (who will probably fit them as well)

Remote control has stopped working. Have tried changing the battery of the remote control but that did not work.

Does the red light on the remote light up when you push any of the button
if no, replace remote
if yes, then try repograming the remote to the car again.
-Have remotes' ready. if you have two then fob#1 and fob#2 (doesn't matter which one is #1 or #2)
-each step has to be done within 5 sec or it will not work, but don't do it super fast.
1.turn key just to the "on" position (not starting) and push "lock button " on fob#1 once and release
2.turn key off
3.turn key just to the "on" position (not starting)and push "lock button " on fob#1 once and release
4.turn key off
5.turn key just to the "on" position (not starting)and push "lock button " on fob#1 once and release
6turn key off
7.turn key just to the "on" position (not starting) and push "lock button " on fob#1 twice (if you only have one fob, then stop here and go to step 8)and push the "lock button" on fob#2 twice.
8.turn key off and remove key from ignition.
if you did it right, remotes' should work again.
good luck

Battery in key fob went dead need to reset keyfob audi tt 2000

hi you can do this but you will have to have a key that does not have a remote/fob on it ( basically just go get one cut cheaply ) then to reprogram keys/key fob's first using the key without fob, turn ignition on ( do not turn over, just to position 2) then lock drivers door with other key ( do not use fob, just the key itself with fob now complete the following within 30 seconds within 5 seconds( of locking the car) press the unlock button on the first key once ( this programs that key as key memory1) the indicators should flash once to indicate signal received wait 5 seconds then press unlock on key fob vehicle should then unlock meaning key fob has been programmed and programming ended open door turn ignition off , and that's it, it should work if you have more than 1 key with fob, do the same as above but instead of pressing unlock once, you do it twice, if third key 3 x if fourth key 4 x etc etc,

My battery died on my key remote for my 2002 Ford Expedition. I have replaced the battery, but apparently need to reprogram it. How do I do this?

It should work even after taken the battery out., but here is the process.
1. place key in ing.
2.turn from position 2(lock) to pos 3(off), cycle pos 3 to pos 4, 8 times within 10 secs. your 8th turn ending in pos 4. Doors should lock/unlock confirming the program mode is ready.
3. within 20 secs, program your fob by pressing any button on the fob. the doors will lock/unlock confirm it is programmed. If more than 20 sec pass before pressing the fob button, the step will have to be redone.

2000 Jeep GC security key problem

You need to replace the SKIM module and have it programmed. It needs to be programmed to the PCM with the VIN and the keys all have to be programmed to the module. I don't think aftermarket scanners are capable of all that is involved so you may have to go to the dealer to get it done. I hope this helps.
