Question about Cars & Trucks

Why does the engine have trouble starting and running?

The engine started and ran for a minute then died. Now you can crank it over and the engine tries to start but does not. It will hit several times then dies.

Does about half the spark plug coil packs go bad at once. The engine acts like maybe half are sparking.

You have a sensor issue. Could be the ignition sensor or a spark plug coil pack issue.

Hi Mike, Could be something to do with the battery and a loose connection, or a blocked fuel filter or defective pump, which is the most likely. Have a diagnostic scan carried out. Regards John.

The fuel pressure sounds too low. Is it multi-port injection? Check the fuel pressure against your specs for the car and engine. MPFI systems usually require 40-50 psi.

My 96 grand cherokee is shutting down, have replaced almost everything but crank sensor will this be the end of my problems???please help

If the crank sensor is failing, you should get a check engine light and a trouble code for it.
Have you had the computer checked for trouble codes ?

My 2003 chevy malibu cranks but wont start. battery is good and altenator is good

To clarify - - if the engine cranks the battery and starter are ok.
The alternator does not come into play until the engine is running.
If it cranks but won't start, you have to figure out if you are missing fuel to the injectors or spark to the plugs to proceed.
A mechanic would check that and if there are any trouble codes stored in the computer.

Starting problems

It will likely be the crank sensor, usually fitted next to or behind the bottom engine pulley. A common failure is for the sensor to stop sending a signal when hot, and the engine will stall immediately. After a time, it re-starts but will cut out again when the sensor gets hot again. These sensors are easy to find and replace, and not usually expensive.

F250 spins over well will not start

Sounds like a faulty crank sensor. Can also be caused by a faulty cam sensor.
