I loving the idea of the great gas mileage that it will get me, but since its 23 yrs old and has 152,000 how much more can i go with it? the price is right, any one have any ideas espically about the mileage, is it good or bad?
I have known the tercel to go easily 250K. If the price is right it is a no brainer. Usually the rust wins before engine failure. Those late model 80's Tercels consistently got over 35mpg.
Please leave me good feedback if you think this helped.
They are inexpensive to repair and maintain, however they did have some problems with the carberators on those cars and the carbs were the exception when it comes to the cheap parts attained (new carb $428.00) I have heard people getting over 200,000 miles out of these little ugly ducklings rock on! As a matter of fact I own a 1986 4WD wagon 136,000 miles going strong
Have had an 88 Tercel for 16 years...had 45,000 on it when I bought it in 93/has 130,000 on it now and the engine and transmission sound beautiful.....I have had to do some body work on it to save it from further corrosion/(3M rubberized undercoating works fairly well)--people are right about the carbs being problematic, but I still LOVE this car! very, very reliable and durable!
Sounds like you jave taken care of it. You should get over 200,000 out of it. If you are still getting good mileage, it's still pretty sound.
