Check the front of the radiator as well. Leaves or trash or dirt wont let enough air through the radiator for cooling.

The fan should be running when idling at the stop light. If it is not you will need to shop for a used or new electric fan. These are generally easy to install as most have very few bolts and lift straight up after carefully disconnecting the wires at the connectors.

Fan works fine. Could be as simple as a thermostat?

It could be a loose belt so water pump doesn't turn enough at idle. It could be a water pump that has failing impellers. It could be a blocked radiator. If you go to drain it and it won't pour out the radiator has a blockage. It could be low coolant. It is not likely a thermostat because it would not just get hot at idle.

The indications are that when the vehicle is stationary there is not enough air flow through the radiator to cool it. If it has electric fans then they are not coming on at engine temperature which could be fuse, relay or water temperature sensor problem. On the other hand if you have a viscous fan hub the replace the viscous hub as it will be faulty
other indicators will be over heating at low speeds or with high engine rpms at low speeds

Why does my car Overheat?

Possible thermostat faulty, Thermostat automatic, stays shut, till water reaches correct temp, if it goes faulty, (ie) does not open after reaching running temp, water will not circulate, so engine overheats

Car overheat.

Check the radiator fan operations. Gas mileage sucks because the air filter box is toast. Computer can't get an accurate read on incoming air.

OVERHEAT

It sounds like there is a leak in the radiator. We can determine that it's a leak and not the pump. If it were the pump it would not last any time at all. You Must take care of the issue because you could easily overheat and can even seize the engine.

Repost and let me know if you have any further questions.

Good luck!

You will need to pull the speedometer out and have the odometer (u call mileage counter) repaired, the little drive gear that comes off the speedometer to operate the odometer has failed or broken.
