Open up the tail gate, you will see two torque screws on the inside beside the tail lights. take these out, this will free up the housing and you can change it from there.

Pappapumpdaf has the right idea,,, crawl under there and grab hold your drive shafts and check the slop in movement,,, its highly likely that your U-Joints (at the ends of the shafts) are worn ,,, just a few bolts and you can swap them out pretty quick pending on rust and such,,, Good Luck Pgood62

SOURCE: I have a 2007 Dodge RAM 1500. Where is the shift

All the shift solenoids are in the transmission. You will have to remove the oil pan from the bottom of the transmission to access these. All the solenoids are on a package/ housing. They come off as a unit. You can replace these one at a time, but you really need to know what your looking for. It could be a bad solenoid , bad wiring in the transmission, bad connection at the plug going to the transmission, bad wiring going to the transmission. Computers will pop out a code, but you have to check everything that is related to that sensor/ solenoid.

2006 dodge Ram 1500 will not shift in reverse has codes P0736 and P1790 ?

the 1790 is a range display code, make sure your shift linkage is adjusted correctly 0736 is reverse out of range (rpm) which could mean possible shift linkage, or solenoid problem, or worst case internal problem with low reverse clutch or band, check fluid condition and level if its burnt your most likely going to have an internal problem if not run a scanner for possible adjustment or solenoid failure

2003 dodge ram 1500 quad cab will not shift out of park

There is what is called a shift interlock mechanism. It is suppose to keep you from putting it into gear withut putting your foot on the break.

Do a quick test. See if your brake lights come on when you press the brake peddle. If they do, you will have to go into the wireing of the brake switch and see if power is coming out of the switch to the interlock solenoid. If power is going to the solenoid, then you have a bad solenoid.

Hope this helps.

that is very possible. If the solenoid is good, it could be computer. There is also a torque converter clutch solenoid that can go bad. Usually engine codes will show this error.
