How do I fix this Pinging noise and lack of acceleration on my 1998 Ford Expedition?

Hello, I have been having this problem with this Pinging noise coming from the engine on my 1998 Ford Expedition. It started last year after i used the car to go traveling in northern California. It starts when i specially go uphill or whenever I go over 75-80 MPH sounds like a bunch of marbles in a glass jar hitting each other. I told this to my Mechanic and he said to put Super Unleaded fuel91 Octane in it to fix this issue. I did, and looks like it has fixed it but this car should be ok with 87 Octane any way. So, here's my question, what is it that causing this and how can i put 87 Octane fuel and not have this Pinging noise?

As a vehicle ages, the timing gets off, and the Octane of fuel will compensate for an out of timing vehicle.
Bad gas is main culprit, also dirty/clogged fuel filter, or clogged carberetor or injectors!
Use a "GOOD" fuel system cleaner for the next 3 tankfuls, and use a higher octane fuel at the same time!!! This is important. After 3 tankfuls and 3 additions of a Fuel System Cleaner, go back to a lower octane fuel. Drive up a hill and see if the problem is gone. If not, then either take it to a mechanic and check timing, hopefully you replaced the fuel filter by then.

Why does my 98 expedition make a pinging noise at 25 to 35 mph then goes away

this noise is detonation. It is an uncontrolled untimed ignition from hot spots in the combustion chamber igniting an incorrect air/fuel mixture. IT is harmful if left un repaired as it has the capability of melting holes in pistons.. Run the fault codes or check /change the air/ fuel mixture settings and ignition timing of the engine . Most engines run around 10-12 degrees advanced and any more than that will help cause the problem, as the spark occurs too early and the extra pressure built up by the combustion will combust the rest of the mixture in the cylinder. Fuel quality is important so if you are using a standard grade fuel( 89-91 octane rated) fill with a premium fuel with a higher fuel octane rating . Give a miss to E- fuel mixtures

1998 Ford Expedition when it's parked the A/C works perfectly at any level; but when running, when acelerate over 40 miles/hr the A/C sounds like something is obstructing the ducts (air is still there...

Hi, this actually sounds like your heating system may lack vacuum. The system is designed to fail in the defrost mode. Some vehicles shut down ac compressor under heavy acceleration, but you did not mention heavy throttle.

So, look for vacuum leaks, you may need to install a vacuum reservoir. You may have engine performance issues, causing low manifold vacuum, you may have a check valve that failed, so under acceleration, the vacuum is not shut off, but rather evacuated into the engine...

Hope it helps....

I have a 98 ford expedition thats running lean on the left bank and its pinning

Is "pinning" actually PINGING?
Anyway, sound like a problem with the crossover pipe on the fuel rail. Not something that you should mess with. It is under great pressure. Take it to a decent mechanic... and stay clear of the dealership!!

Transfer case is leaking,is it ok to drive it ? Or should i just drive it sreight to the mechanics?

keep an eye on the leak, if it is a minor leak u can take your time about having it fixed, if it is a major leak then you can run the case dray and burn it up from lack of lube, that kind of leak needs attention now.
