Question about 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser
Chime &a/bag lite should go off approxemently 6to 8 seconds if not I would take to dealer as that is in the same category as seat belts dealer must repair at no chare to you ,

I have never heard a chime for airbags /light. The chime only happens with the door, key, lights, seat belts(which yours isn't part of the air bag system), and check gauges. You have another problem to set the chime.

I honestly do not believe this chime can be shut off as it's part and parcel of the passive restraint system. A Chiltons/Haynes repair manual may have some ideas (i.e. removal of relay, fuse, etc).
I'd buy a newer vehicle (mine's a 1992), but I don't want airbags since I wear glasses. And can't find anyone to disable the airbags on father-in-laws cars that I drive to run him around. Been tempted to ram them with my old pickup to set-off the airbags and then clean-up the mess.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Yes, the tumbler is worn, possibly from a heavy key chain or abnormally frequent stop/starts. Ther amy also be a bad connection in the switch connections itself, that may not require a whole new ignition switch.

your car has several air bags and quite a few different sensors and such. you will need to have the codes pulled and diagnosed by a qualified technician.

p1685,,"skim invalid key"
I have no idea what they are talking about, but that is the code.
DTC P1685 is Invalid SKIM Key. The Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM) is part of the security system and kills the vehicle when a wrong key is used. There may be a problem with your key or the chip reader in the ignition switch. This is something the dealer will need to determine for sure. This code will also be set if someone actually tried to steal the vehicle.
My guesswould beto reset your PCM (unhook bat. and depress brake for 1 min), then try to start the car. If that doesn't work, I guess haul it into a dealership so they can run a diagnostic
I got this from another site, check it out.
