Lower you can do fairly easy. Upper, a bit tougher.For the upper you will need a spring compressor.

How do I replace a front suspension crossmember on a Chevy Silverado 2500 HD 4x4?


The actual crossmember is not very heavy but since it is bent, there may be other "stressed" portions of the frame.
- I would slack off the bolts to determine the effect before fully removing them. Also would measure betweeen the bolt holes on the replacement and the bolts on the vehicle. If the distances are different, some frame moving may be required. That could take some force.
- If the slack bolt position allows the crossmember to be wiggled easily, I'd remove it and work at getting the replacement installed.
WORK SAFE! Don't get under the vehicle unless it is on a hoist or on jack stands.

Local auto parts stores sell a line of "do-it-yourself" repair manuals. The names are , for example, "Motor's", "Chilton's, and "Haines".
These are "make" specific, and will walk you through the repair.
If you have no car parts stores available, try looking on Amazon or "e-bay" for one of these repair manuals.

How to replace a sway bar end links to a 94 intrepid



REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

The rear suspension on LH platform vehicles is a fully independent suspension. A stabilizer bar (also called a sway bar) is mounted in rubber isolator bushings and connects the rear struts through links. Note that the fuel tank must be removed to remove the stabilizer bar.

CAUTION OFF. The fuel system pressure must be relieved before disconnecting any fuel lines. Failure to do so may result in fire and/or personal injury.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  3. Remove both rear wheels.

  1. Position a transmission jack under the fuel tank just forward of the crossmember to help support the fuel tank when crossmember is removed.
  2. Remove the four crossmember to frame rail attaching bolts. Remove the fuel tank.
  3. Remove the stabilizer bar to link assembly attaching nuts and remove the bar and isolator bushings as an assembly from the vehicle. Inspect the isolator bushings for damage or excessive wear and replace, if necessary.

To install:
  1. Inspect for broken or distorted retainers and bushings. If bushing replacement is required, replacement bushings can be installed by locating the split in the bushing, prying open and removing the defective bushing from around the stabilizer bar.
  2. Install the stabilizer bar and isolator bushings back into the vehicle as an assembly making sure bar is centered in vehicle so it doesn't contact other suspension components.
  3. Install stabilizer bar attaching link onto stabilizer bar. Install new link to bar attaching nuts and tighten to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).

Replace the sway bar bracket bolt with new after loosening or removing them. Only use original equipment bolts as replacements.
  1. Install the fuel tank back onto the vehicle.
  2. Position the crossmember on frame rails and install four mounting bolts. Tighten attaching bolts to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).
  3. Remove transmission jack from under the fuel tank.
  4. Install the rear wheels and lug nuts. Tighten the lug nuts, in a star pattern sequence, to 95-100 ft. lbs. (129-135 Nm).
  5. Lower the vehicle. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  6. Pressurize the fuel system and check for leaks.
  7. Check and reset the rear wheel toe to specifications as required.

The front suspension is a combination strut and spring design. The control arms (11) pivot from the crossmember (12). On base models conventional rubber bushings are used for the lower control arm pivots. On up-level suspensions the front bushing is replaced by a cross axis bearing.

LOWER CONTROL ARM

REMOVAL
1) Raise and support vehicle. 3) Remove the steering knuckle.
Remove the bolts fastening the power steering cooler to the front suspension cradle crossmember reinforcement (Fig. 21). 5) Remove the lower control arm rear bushing retainer bolts located on each side of each lower control arm rear bushing. NOTE: The bolts fastening the cradle crossmember reinforcement are of three different thread sizes. Note the location of the various sizes.

6) Remove the bolts attaching the cradle crossmember reinforcement to the front suspension cradle crossmember (Fig. 22). Remove the 2 bolts fastening the reinforcement and rear of cradle crossmember to the body of the vehicle. Remove the reinforcement. 7) Remove the pivot bolt attaching the front bushing of the lower control arm to the front suspension cradle crossmember. 8) Remove the lower control arm.

How to remove front stabilizer bar in '05 Scion TC


I don't know if you can get the bushings out without changing the bar or not, but changing the bar is a big job for a DIY. I was thinking about it but will probably have a pro do it for me. From the shop manual: 1. PLACE FRONT WHEEL FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 2. REMOVE COLUMN HOLE COVER SILENCER SHEET (See page SR-9) 3. DISCONNECT NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY (See page PS-21) 4. DISCONNECT NO. 1 STEERING COLUMN HOLE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 5. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL 6. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER LH 7. How to change lower ball joints


part of lower arm assembly only.

Installation
  1. Inspect lower ball joint boots and seals for damage and replace if required. Lower ball joint and seal is part of front suspension lower arm and must be replaced as an assembly.
  1. NOTE: Do not tighten the front suspension lower arm bolts and nuts to the specified torque until the end of assembly. Install nuts and tighten until snug.

    Position the front suspension lower arm in the front crossmember. Install the bolts. Install the nuts and tighten until snug.
  1. Install torsion bar. Refer to Torsion Bar in this section.
  1. Raise the front suspension lower arm to allow installation of front suspension lower arm ball joint into spindle bore.
  1. Lower front suspension lower arm with a jack while making sure lower ball joint is seated in spindle bore. Install the lower ball joint attaching nut and tighten to 113-153 Nm (82-113 lb-ft). Install a new cotter pin.
  1. Raise vehicle. Position the front shock absorber and install the nut/washer/bushing assembly. Tighten nut to 40-55 Nm (30-40 lb-ft).
  1. Install the two nuts attaching the front shock absorber to the lower control arm and tighten to 21-29 Nm (15-21 lb-ft).
  1. NOTE: Front suspension lower arms must be in the horizontal or curb position (vehicle on the ground) when tightening the front stabilizer bar link bolts. Use jackstands to raise the front suspension lower arms to the horizontal position or lower the vehicle to the ground (curb position).

    Lower the vehicle to the ground.
  1. Connect the stabilizer bar link bolt to the front suspension lower arm and tighten to 13-17 Nm (10-13 lb-ft).
  1. Tighten nuts and front suspension lower arm bolts to the No. 1 crossmember to 150-200 Nm (111-148 lb-ft).
  1. Check ride height and align as necessary. Refer to Section 04-00 .
  1. Lower the vehicle.
