AGM gearbox keeps switching gears on it's own accord

Sometimes the box is fine , changes up and down on the stick or paddles. At other times, especially when not pushing the car, the box will jump around on it's own. The favourite being to jump from 4th to 1st. It does tend to jump down rather than up but has also jumped up on occasion. To add to that when in Auto mode as soon as you stop or slow right down it switches back to the manual mode. Looked at previous blogs and as a result changed the SMG relay but no difference. There is a fault code 5E15 but cannot see what this means.

5E15 is CAN communication error with EGS, means the paddle shift info is not properly getting to the trans computer, it thinks you are commanding these odd shifts then realizes it's bad info and codes. Typically the wiring in the clockspring part of the steeering column will wear through the insulation and open or short to cause this. More likely if the steering wheel or steering shaft was ever removed after a collision.

I have a lexus is 250 with a tiptronic auto box when im coming downhill the car is hunting/jerking and never done it before.the gearbox is smooth but when you drive on the highway for a long time and

read the owners manual on the operation of a tiptronic box. It will probably state that the manual selection of the box is for keeping the gear box in set gears to prevent unnecessary gear changing. So when going down hill select a gear manually and that will use the engine braking capability instead of up shifting as the rpms increase
It is fun to use the tiptronic as a manual box but that is not the real purpose of the transmission design.. IT is to lock the transmission into certain gears to prevent unnecessary up and down shifting of the transmission

1999 bmw 318i clutch or gearbox? (manual)

I would change the viscosity of the oil in the gear box first as if the oil is too heavy the syncro springs cannot handle a quick shift. next check the drain plug magnet for metal bits Lastly check that the clutch operation is spot on and that the clutch is fully disengaging to allow for the fast shift. May mean that you have to put your foot fully to the floor for your fast shifts and not as you see it in the movies. At this stage with you information if the box shifts well under normal conditions then I would tend to discount a faulty box

I have a 12/2000 grandure, it sticks in 3rd gear of the auto trans, but only when it has warmed up, u can reset it by stopping turning the ignition off and re starting, but only until it hits third gear...

Time for a gearbox oil change. As the oil gets older it breaks down and that means it heats up too quickly, meaning it will not allow the auto to change gears properly. As you have switched the engine off and restarted it tricks the ECU into thinking that the gearbox oil is cold until it reaches too high levels.

Change the oil soon as an auto box rebuild isn't cheap.

Hope this helps.

If the actual gear stick is hard to move you will find the linkages are stuck on something, if it moves freely and still doesnt change theres two things it could be, first is motor was incorrectly installed or second is the gearbox has gone into limp mode, limp mode is a factory set mode that keeps the car in 3rd gear for a 3 speed or 4th in a 4 speed, in the ba's i had this problem with my car, limp mode is only a safety measure to get you home and should be looked at immediatley.

You need to check the adjustment on the shifter, I think that may be the problem, do that before assuming the gearbox is defective.
