Howard is right... make sure the basics are good; battery starter, voltage, etc.
I had a 2002 impala that would occasionally get a no-start with a flashing security dash light. Wait 15-30 minutes and it might start. I eventually found that there were a lot of GM cars around 2002 that had issues with the PassLock security system. The correct fix is to replace the ignition switch and key.
I ended up bypassing the PassLock system:

Why do think the key security is bad? If you still have a factory key, this is not the problem...if no factory key, you can take your VIN number or original key to GM dealer to get new key that they will program for you...Check for dirty battery connections:)

The problem is your Vats security system. This causes the car to either "not start" or "shut down" while running. (depending on the system) If the security light flashes, i guarantee that this is what the problem is. 1st trick, turn the key forward 2 clicks till right before it would normally start, leave like that for 10 minutes. ( no less ) After 10 minutes, turn key back then forward and your car might start. Cheap fix: ----- http://vats.likeabigdog.com/ ----- Bypassing the key Never worry again fix: -------- http://newrockies.ca?ap_id=judd0081 ----- With this fix, you can take that whole Vats, passlock, passkey **** system out of your car all together. Good info on both sites

Without going into a lot of detail, I take it that this Security light gadget is a anti burglar device to really just stop the 'joy-riders' from nicking your vehicle. Follow wires back to were its connected to, the power supply end. [If fuse box, try removing fuse, or is it inserted into a cable bullet? remove from bullet socket]. If unit works by completing a circuit, replace this mechanism [the whole unit], with a new length of correct voltage /ampere type cable inserting [or connecting replacement as other connection is removed, so you will not forget just where the cable came from.
