SOURCE: check engine light on a 1996 chevy lumina

Hi there .... the best thing to do right now is to take it somewhere like autozone and get the car scanned for codes. Once you have the codes you can post them here and we can help you with it. Without codes it is a little difficult to diagnose.

SOURCE: Where is the camshaft position sensor located-99 Chevy Lumina 3.1

It's held down by one bolt right above the timing chain cover. It's next to the head that's facing toward the front of the car.

Either the pin that connects rod to tranny is broken off, or there is internal transmission problems.

SOURCE: 1996 Chevy Lumina Sedan Whining noise from engine

The pattern you describe is consistent with an alternator going bad. Maybe the fields are already rubbing together. Test it this way: Start the car and leave on idle, when the whine is worse, then start using up electricity, by increasing the demand. Turn on AC, then lights, then full blower and then high beams. If there is a change in the whine, then either alternator or voltage regulator is the culprit. When a compressor pulley bearing is bad, noise shifts just by turning AC on and off.

SOURCE: 1999 chevy lumina doesn't shift into overdrive, why?

If it won't go into overdrive a speed sensor within the transmission may not be sending the shift signal to the transmission. Check fluid levels to make sure that's not causing the problem. Also, check that the fluid is red color and clean.

Transmission probably needs to be serviced at a reputable shop if you want this problem fixed.

Car transmission speed sensor

The speed sensor on that transmission (4T60E) is located on the passenger side of the trans,on the output tailshaft that bolts to the main case with 4..13 mm bolts. The actual bolt that holds the speed sensor in the output tailshaft is a 10 mm studded bolt.Follow the passenger side axle to the transaxle, now look up above the axle,on top, that's where the speed sensor is.Good luck
