The brake light switch at your pedal is defective, or more likely, the wire at the connector broke or came loose. If you need to move it in an emergency, turn off the car, place it in neutral, and start it. Mind you that you still will not have brake lights. The switch is an easy fix.

assuming you have brake lights and marker light, I would check the socket for voltage, both the contacts and probe the wire (Brown) for voltage...it could be a bad socket.... if no voltage, trace the "Bwn" wire back and keep probing til you find voltage, check the connector in the trunk on the LT/RT side also...hope this helps you...GL

just finished repairing this problem on 98 mustang, the fan didn't operate at full speed and a/c compressor had no signal, it was the ccrm, or air cond control module located on passenger side behind plastic inner fender, also accessible under hood if you remove air filter box and reach through hole, the replacement has to have the same large letter on top of module, example, mine had a large S, i think this corresponds to a letterin vin but not sure, but it does have to be the same. controls fan and speed of fan, fuel pump and a/c compressor
