Hey Bob how's it going ? What engine does it have 2.2 3.5 L ? An how did you test for current ? This is a AC voltage .
The crankshaft position (CKP) sensor is a permanent magnet generator, known as a variable reluctance sensor. The CKP sensor produces an AC voltage of different amplitude and frequency. The frequency depends on the velocity of the crankshaft. The AC voltage output depends on the crankshaft position and the battery voltage. The CKP sensor works in conjunction with a 7X reluctor wheel attached to the crankshaft. The CKP sensor produces seven pulses for each revolution of the crankshaft. The pulse from the 10-degree notch is known as the sync pulse. The sync pulse is used to synchronize the coil firing sequence with the crankshaft position. The CKP sensor is used for ignition timing, the fuel injector timing, misfire diagnostics and tachometer display. The CKP sensor is connected to the ECM by a signal circuit and a low reference circuit.
The best way to test is with a lab scope !

Click on the link for fuel pump wiring, note the fuses. Use a gage and check fuel pressure.
Key on engine off, can you hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds? If not, have to check wiring circuits and fuses--grounds, possibly a fuel pump issue?
Engine cranking do you have spark at the plugs, I'm just trying to decide if more than one issue? Any applicable trouble codes?

Crank but no start


What make , model an year vehicle ? Could be a relay problem , power hold relay for ford , ignition 1 relay for GM vehicles or ASD - auto shut down relay for jeep , dodge , Chrysler vehicles . Asian vehicles have them too , Honda - main relay powers fuel injectors , coils etc.... Do you know how to do basic automotive electrical testing ? Check for voltage ? You would need to look at a wiring diagram for your vehicle , see which wire powers the coil an injectors etc...test for B+ voltage ! Videos on you tube showing how to test ignition , fuel etc..

Why car won't crank?


What make vehicle an year an model . You need to look at power distribution diagram an see where those fuse's get B+ voltage from . Code reader saying not connected would suggest the PCM/ECM has no power either . Go to http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html free wiring diagrams . Enter vehicle info . year ,make , model engine size . Then under system click on electrical distribution , subsystem click on power distribution . Then you can trace were power to those fuse's comes from . Do you know how to read a wiring diagram ? go on you tube an check out videos on how to read wiring diagrams .

No current from crank sensor to ECM


You don't get current from a crank sensor just signal. been sitting a while smell the gas, smells like varnish u need to drain it and new gas and go from there.

Why am I not getting fuel pump voltage to the green wire that goes to my fuel pump relay. I am getting ignition voltage to the double orange wires.


Is this the 88 safari, still? My info shows you have an oil pressure switch in parallel with fuel pump relay. If that switch and circuit is functional, once you crank it enough to bring up oil pressure and that switch closes, the fuel pump will get voltage, regardless of relay. The relay has two sides, the load side, that is the line with arrowhead, and the control side, the dark green wire with white tracer is voltage to control side, comes from the computer. The black wire with white tracer is a ground, chassis ground.
So, with engine cranking, you have spark at the plugs and fuel injector pulse? I'm just trying to decide if you have more than one issue?

It sounds to me like it could be one of a few problems.
1) Incorrect ECU for the car
2) Incorrect wiring at either of the parts you changed or at the ECU
3) Faulty ECU

Start with the easier ones and the cheapest. Check your wiring and check your part numbers and ensure that all of them are for your year/model of car. Also, double check all of your connections from start to finish and ensure that there are no kinks, breaks, cuts, scratches of the wires and/or coatings.

Sends a signal related to the rail pressure as a voltage to the ECM. 3 wire connector :
  • Red : 5V (Feeds from ECM connector J1-4) Shared with MAP sensor, EGR pressure sensor and accellerator position sensor.(compare values from these sensors and ECM connector)
  • Black : Ground (Feeds from ECM J2-22) Shared with the same sensors mentioned above
  • White : Signal feeds to ECM connector J2-22
Low pressure will set P1194 error code. Oil rail pressure should be more than 3MPa when cranking

Also check Engine coolant temp sensor and wiring. Engine coolant to manifold temp should not differ by more than 5 deg C either way after 8 hours of no operation. I have found the same symptom on these diesels with fuel supply problems. Operate the priming pump (on top of the fuel filter) until it becomes diffycult to push down before starting or checking anything else.
