Why is my truck not idling after charge?

Last night the brake lights were stuck on. This drained the battery. This AM we jumpstarted it and let the battery charge. The lights were off and the truck ran for about 2 min then died`

In that situation, the battery has to be charged by an external battery charger before running it in the car.
The alternator is not designed to charge a dead battery.
You can take the battery to autozone or other parts shop, for a free test and charge.

Hope this helps.

Computer may have reset and require driving 50 miles or so before "relearn" cycle is complete.

Try checking the voltage of the battery after charging and disconnecting the leads.. Batteries die if being drained too much..

You will burn out your alternator if you keep on doing this. The alternator is not a charger. If you have a dead battery you should always charge it overnight on a charger. To keep the battery fresh all that you have to do is disconnect the terminals.Yes this is normal because the car has clocks and alarms that drain power even when the key is off. If you let the battery set to long while it is drained it will not take a charge.

Is the car immobilized? if so you may have to lock and unlock the car with the key and not the remote.

Is it turning over or just nothing, also starter motor may be jammed. put the car in gear with the hand brake off and push the car forward until you feel the engine turn over. You dont need the keys in the car!

This should free the starter off, sometimes they jam very tight and will not move at all, on these jags. they get rusty quickly if sat about. I had a XJ many years ago great motors.

Good luck.

That clicking is the starter trying to engage. Try jumpstarting the vehicle. Your battery may not have come back yet.... and you may need a new one. Try letting it run for a half hour or so after jumpstarting. If it starts immediately after shutting it off you're probably good to go. If it requires another jumpstart then you need a new battery.

Try jumpstarting from another car. You probably did not get the battery fully charged before you tried it. Also, check to see if the cables are connected tightly and if they are corroded, clean them before doing anything else. When you jump start, make sure the cables go on the correct terminals at both ends. Make the last connection to the ground on the bug (- wire)
