My Acura does that but it gets louder every day. It's just a sign of age or quality.

SOURCE: fuel filter on 98 neon

i doubt you will have to change the fuel pump it should be located under the car between the tank and engine possibly more less toward the tank.

sounds like you may have to replace your fuel filter is it origional or have you replaced it before ? if the fuel pump is screaming then there is usually a restriction in the line sometimes caused by dirty fuel filter , its also possible that the electric fuel pump is on its way out they will screem when they are ready to retire first replace fuel filter and monitor the sound if it comes back after replacing the filter then you will need to have a pump replaced .also check the level of fuel in your tank when you hear the noise sometimes the level of gas in the tank drops leaving the fuel pump unsubmerged in the fuel making it easier to hear the noise follow me . replace fuel filter and diagnose the sound from there thanks for using a fine web tool like fixya

Get a DTC scanner and see what it says...in the meantime, check that fuel pump relay and fuel pump. The humming sound is probably the heater blower motor or part of the HVAC system winding down after disconnecting from power.

SOURCE: changed fuel pump and fuel filter, now x5 2002 won't start

1. use scanner to find out if there's trouble code.

2.. it's not clear if the starter (motor) turns as you try to start the engine, if not, check starter motor including intermittent (maybe) problem with the ignition switch.

3.if starter motor turns everytime you try to start: check the electrical ignition system: coils & spark plugs

I have replaced both the fuel pump & also the fuel filter on my 96 740il. It runs for about 30 minutes perfect and then the humming noise starts all over again. What can be the problem

Not enough info. Why did you change the pump and filter, is it running bad? Does it run bad while making noise? Could the noise coming from the catalytic converter after it heats up?

Though your discription is limited in details, I would start by turning the ignition on and listen for a humming noise coming from the area of the fuel pump. You should hear it. It should cycle or hum for one to two seconds. Your options here are then to determin 1). if you do hear it and it is functioning then the problem is probably NOT the fuel pump. I would then start with second option and usually the cheapest route would be to change the fuel filter.

If the fuel filter has been changed recently, check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail. I believe on your vehicle the fuel pressure should be 35 - pounds pressure (verify this with your local mechanic). If it is not then you could have a fuel pump going out.

No fuel getting to injecdtors

2 things to check. Do a fuel pressure check. It will tell you if the pump is working. Take off the fuel cap and have another turn the key to the on position, but not start. You should be able to hear a humming sound coming from the pump. If you hear this, start by changing the fuel filter. If you do not hear the humming sound at the cap, time to replace the fuel pump.

Humming noise from fuel pump

Humming noises coming from the fuel pump area is normal. It just means the fuel pump is doing what it is supposed to do.

However, if the sound is much louder than usual, it could be from a restricted fuel filter causing the fuel pump to have to work too hard. I would recommend replacing the fuel filter and see if this helps the noise.

Otherwise, it could also be a sign that the bearings in the pump motor are worn and the pump is getting ready to quit on you.

I put a new fuel pump in my 1989 jeep cherokee now its making a loud humming noise when i strat it and while its running was not doing it at first come from ta fuel tank can you help ......

Not Sure About A Jeep But Sounds Like Your Fuel Pump May Be Going Out But Thats Only When You Have Not Changed The Fuel Filter In A Very Long Time. Because If Your Fuel Filter Is Very Clogged And Your Pump Has Been Fighting To Push Fuel Through It When Your Pump Is Working Harder Than It Should And Then You Change The Filter. The Sudden Change In Force Needed To Get Fuel Through Can Make The Pump Go Out...

With motor running and your head under hood listen for hissing sound. Then start replaceing filters first air filter , then fuel filter. Check fuel pump by listening for humming noise at gas cap when you first move key in ignition to on (when the red lights go on). Have someone listen for you at the gas cap.(NO hum need pump)

Does a fuel pump make a grinding noise while idiling

fuel pump noises vary from model to model however, it should be a smoth humming or steady sound at idle not a grinding or pulsing sound. A inexpensive way to improve your fuel system is to replace the fuel filter. This is relatively inexpensive and can save wear and tear on your fuel pump. Remember, if you do replace a fuel pump always replace the fuel filter and make sure that you replace the fuel strainer. A plugged fuel filter can quickly ruin a fuel pump. I also recommend flushing the fuel tank if the old fuel strainer has more than very small amounts of rust or dirt.
