Rear Seat Operation Folding the Seatback Your vehicle may have a split folding rear seatback. To fold down the rear seatback on the sedan, do the following: 1. Open the trunk and pull one or both of the gray handles located on the upper part of the trunk opening. The left handle will open the larger side of the seatback. The right handle will open the smaller side of the seatback. 2. Once a handle is pulled, the seatback can be pushed open through the trunk, or pulled open from inside the vehicle3. Fold the seatback down. To raise the seatback, do the following: 1. Push down on one of the levers and pull the seatback up to lock it into place. Make sure the safety belt is not twisted or caught in the seatback. 2. Push and pull the top of the seatback to be sure it is locked into position. 3. Use the reclining front seatback lever to adjust the seatback to a comfortable position.

The front passenger seat doesn't recline. The handle seems to work perfectly

This one is pretty easy to figure out. Your seatback isn't working correctly. Okay, I'll grant that my answer may seem pretty obvious, but, it really isn't, please hear me out.

When you yank on the handle the pawl that engages and locks the seatback into position, so that it won't move, is removed from its receiver. In this mode, the seatback moves freely back and forth as there is nothing to prevent its movement back and forth. You use this movement to find the exact seatback angle for you and when you have, you release the handle and the pawl is reengaged and the seat is locked. (There are various safety features involved that assure you that your seatback will remain locked in position. While the pawl and receiver are quite sturdy, you cannot depend on them alone in a crash. So, there is at least one interlock device that engages when the pawl goes home. The interlock helps to "rigidize" the seatback so it doesn't move.)

What is happening in your car's case, though is this, the interlock may be broken so that even if the pawl releases from the receiver, which it apparently is doing, your seatback remains locked because the linkage between the handle, pawl and the interlock is not working. You will have to have the interlock (it could be that device) and its linkages repaired before the problem will clear up.

Remove back seat backs 2004 chevy cavalier LS: Can not find a release and or attachmnet hardware to remove.

You may have to remove the seat bottoms to gain access to the bolts or clips that hold the seatback(s) in place. Once the bolts or clips are removed the seatbacks should slide UP to release them. Remember to engage the backside locks when installing them again.

I am trying to fix a door handle that will not open from outside

Turn the window handle to where you can see a small 1/2" slot rt at its base where it meets the panel.you'll notice a small brass v shaped clip, you'll need hooked pick or something simular to hook this clip and pull it out of its slot, this release's window crank handle. Once this is off the rest of panel is held on by plastic panel clips that pull loose by pulling panel outwards from door ,and also by a few various screws. once panel is off temp. slide window crank back on and crank window all the way up. You then should have clear view of outer door handle. Handle has two rods attached to it,one for lock assy., one for latch release. This is the one you'll be looking at.Most likely you will find rod has came loose due to broken retainer clip at handle,or casting on handle itself has broken off.If clip is broke you can buy new clip at dealer or at some autoparts outlets, replace and reattach rod(make sure rod locks into place). If handle casting is broke will need handle replaced. It is held in place by two 10mm bolts, two rods preeviously mentioned. If handle is body color matched will need color code(on door jam sticker)to order handle from dealer to match.Lock assy will need to be transfered to new handle,it is held in by two spring clips. You notice two holes one on each side of lock, you will need to push release clips inwards through each hole to release lock and slide it out.to install just push down into newhandlle until clips engage. Let me know if you run into problems. Good luck and if this was able to help you please leave me some positive feedback. Thanks and good luck, Joel

Replace park release cable.

You have to replace the entire cable housing and inner cable they sell it as a unit. You could buy one from a junk yard. To remove unscrew the screws that hold the handle assempy from the dash then with it loose you can remove the clip off the brake pedal it is a c type clamp with a flap over it.with a flat tip screw driver push the tab up slide the clip to the larger slot and its off.

My driver's side window will now roll up how do I fix it?

most likely the window regulator has broken inside the door and will need to be replaced as well as the regulator handle. To remove them you will need a basic metric socket set, screwdrivers, and a rag or shop towel. start by moving the rag back and forth behind the window crank in order to remove the retaining clip. then once removed pull the crank from the splines of the window regulator.now undo the screw in the door handle press forward on the handle to release it from the door then undo the lock rod clip and remove the handle. there should be two large phillips head screws below the arm rest remove these. gently slide a flat bladed screwdriver under the bottom edge of the door panel. prying up to remove the retaining clips used to fasten the panel to the door. if you break the clips you can get replacements at most auto parts stores in their help section. Next lift the door panel up while lifting the bottom edge away from the door to remove the door panel. once inside the door you will need to lift the window up to gain access to the two 10 mm bolts attaching the regulator to the glass. undo the regulator retaining bracket and retaining bolts from the door. remove the regulator an assistant can be helpful to hold the glass up while you remove the regulator. installation is the reverse of removal
