The sensor is located behind the crank pulley/harmonic dampener. To replace:

1 Remove the tire/wheel and splash shield.
2 Remove the bolts, then loosen the mount bolt and pivot the side engine mount out of the way.
3 Loosen the idler pulley center nut and adjusting bolt, then remove the A/C compressor belt.
4 Loosen the alternator mounting bolt, nut and adjusting bolt, then remove the alternator belt.
5 Loosen the mounting nuts and adjusting nut, then remove the P/S pump belt.
6 Remove the dipstick and pipe.
7 Remove the crankshaft pulley.
8 Remove the upper covers and lower cover. NOTE: Do not use the upper and lower covers for storing removed items.
9 Remove the CKP sensor from the cylinder block.
10 Install the CKP sensor in reverse order of removal.

Replace 1997 civic ex alternator

The alternator is removed from the bottom of the vehicle. place the vehicle on jackstands positioned on the body, so the suspension hangs (you'll need this extra clearance to get the alternator past the axle shaft). 1). Disconnect the battery 2.) remove the upper mounting bolt (12mm) 3.) remove the terminal nut from the white wire. (10mm) 4.) Disconnect the 4pin connector 5.) From under the vehicle remove the lower mounting through bolt nut and through bolt (14mm) 6.) Remove the alternator from the lower mount and position the alternator to the side of the lower mount. 7.) remove the two lower mount bolts (14mm) and remove the lower mount asy. 8.) remove the alternator down the axle and out below the wheelwell. its going to be a tight fit so you'll have to turn the alternator at just the right position to get it out.

Alternator

it is an easier way to remove an alternator.
1.-disconnect the battery
2.- take the right side tire off(make sure it is a tower under the car for safety)
3.- diconnect the harnest from the alternator from under the vehicle, and the nut the holds the holds the positive cable too.
4.- use a long extention with a flex socket size 15mm and a ratchet to remove the two bolts from the alternator. This two bolt will have to be remove from under the car.
5.- the last bolt have to be remove from an top of the car. Usiing a mid size flex ratchet and a regular 15mm socket.
6. After the last bolt is removed the alternator will have to be remove from top of the egine.

hope this instructions can help anybody.
