actually that ring is just a crush collar type spacer some of them can be removed or tapped down into the hole further so you can get it into the slot that is goes try doing this and see if it fits then

if its a 2wd truck they shouldnt be that tight as they are kept in place with a cotter pin, i usually just use a cresent
