DTC P0740 - Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Malfunction

It sounds like you need new solenoids in valve body you have a open circuit in the T/C clutch solenoid valve in valve body, I would replace the solenoids to fix your problem and inspect all connection to transmission valve body.

The valve body will need to be removed to get the valves replaced This can be a little hard if you have not done this before it comes with harness and solenoid pack together.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

I have a 92 Honda accord Automatic Ex, the d4 light started off blinking then stopped, now it stays on continuously (together with P light). Causing rpm's to rev higher than normal. Does not feel as if it...

That is a fault indication for your transmission. I am not positive but I think that indicates a fault in your forth gear solenoid. Your transmission is not going to last very long driving it like that. When you stomp on the gas and it does not accelerate, your clutch discs are slipping and burning. It won't take much of that to ruin them. You may want to take it to a good Honda transmission place. I don't know about the older Hondas, but the newer ones don't have any provision for removing a pan and working on them. They don't even have a line replacable filter.
Check your transmission fluid dipstick. If its not a nice "bright" red color, you are probably burning up your clutches. The darker the fluid, the more contaminated it is.

What color is the maintanence light on a 93 honda

You should not have a maintenance light, as those appeared on the 1998 model Accords and up. My old 1996 Accord had an indicator in the gauge cluster which showed either green or red. To reset it, if you looked beside the indicator, you would see a slot to put your key in to reset the indicator.
