How to install trunk lid torsion bar on 2008 Honda Accord sedan

most torsion bars ure under the least tension when fully open and have one bar facing right and one left
insert the fixed end in the bracket then with a suitable tool twist the end of the bar down as you put it in the hinge bracket repeat for the opposite bar
It is not easy until you get the idea as to how to twist the bar as you put it in place

How do I fix the metal bar that keeps the trunk open? My trunk opens but doesn't stay open. I noticed the metal bar popped off and need to know how to put it back on.

There should be two bars.... One on each side. You will have to insert the bar in the slot and twist it until it locks in place in its holding tab. Use the other bar as a reference as to where the slots and holding tabs are. Be careful as there is a lot of force applied to this bar when you are installing it and it can seriously hurt your hand/fingers if it snaps out of place.

So you have no other option but to jump start the car, by finding power cables in engine bay or pribe open the trunk with a crow bar, or have i towed to a auto shop so a professionel locksmith can open the trunk for you.

Have an auto electrician use a jumper to open the trunk. Then replace the failed battery. IF you get the old battery load tested and it proves faulty the auto electrician will be able to install a new battery for you at the same time.

Trunk won't latch closed

So you know how to work the latch, and the latch is working.

Now you need to look and the holding bar, if you have to remover the plastic cover to see how it's bolted on do it.

Sounds like the bar moved down so the trunk hits the gasket before it can lock on the bar.

See if loosening the bar bolts will allow the bar to be raised just a hair.

How replace trunk lid torsion bar 2005 malibu

There are two rods, one has rubber on it. I just replaced the one with rubber on it. Looking at the one rod that was still in place, you can see it mirrors the rod you are going to replace, the placement is just opposite the one that is in there. The rod has a left end that is a square "C" shape, and the right end has a "V" bend right before the end. First position the rod above the seat release cables (if you have them) then position the "V" end near the inside right top of the trunk. Then slide the left "C" end into one of the three slots (I used the bottom slot). Leave it loose so it can rotate with just the tip in the slot. Slide the rod to the right so the "V" is above the spring clip (don't clip it in yet). The right side and the left side of the "V" has to fit into the tabs underneath and inside the top of the trunk. Compare to the left side to see how it fits. Once in place, you can then lower the "V" down to the clip and snap it over the bottom tip of the "V". These steps are easier if the trunk is propped not fully open. I had someone lower the trunk part way while I lay on my back inside the trunk, and I used a small open end wrench to bend the rod slightly to get it to fit into the tabs. The final step is to position the left side of the rod so the torque will hold the lid open. I used a small open end wrench, placed it over the tip in the slot and rotated CW upward until straight part of the rod slid over the hook to hold it in place. This last step had me concerned that I could bend or break the rod, but I went slowly and carefully and was quite happy when it snapped into place and held the lid open.

There are unit that you can get from the Auto stores that allows you to plug into your cigarette lighter that should supply you with enough voltage to open your trunk.

Pontiac sunfire 2005, bar from the trunk fell off

they are usually a combination of bars one over the other and sort of spring loaded and locked by clamps you may have to go to what we in Canada call an auto wreckers and see if you can buy the whole assembly and replace it., all the bars if locked in place properly will open the trunk and hold it open until you press or push it closed

How to install trunk lid torsion bars

one of those bars come out of its bracket ( on my 89 cougar)
none of the local shops would touch it, no even the body shops.
so i just connect one end to the lid, like normal, then with a pry bar, pryed out the other end and put in a small block of wood (two by four) then released the pry bar. took another bite pryed it out again then added another block until i got the desired spring back into the torsion rod. yes that's (jury rigged) but my trunk works almost like it should. if you need i can send you a picture of what i did.
