They are typically mounted on the starter, there is a small block attached to the solenoid wire.

When this happens check for power on the s terminal At the starter while someone holds the key in the crank position. I suspect a faulty ignition switch.

98 chevy cavalier 2.2....replaced starter...car wont turn over..no clicking...battery ok. car will start by jump starting the starter with a screw driver...replaced fuses...any idea what could be wrong?

Sounds like bad battery cables and/or ignition switch. I would clean battery cables thoroughly with wire brush especially the bottom end since they're exposed to road grime, etc... Also check to make sure you put small wires on solenoid on correctly. I've seen people get them reversed because they're looking at them upside down when attaching from under car. More than likely it's those small wires on solenoid.

98 chevy 6cyl pickup standard trans sometime won't start ,sometimes when you turn engine of yoiu have to wait 20 minutes before it will start again. It has new plugs, new fuel pump,

You may have to inspect the starter relay or the starter. Also take a look at the wiring for some loose connections or bad wires that needs replacing.

How do I change a 98 chevy malibu starter?

Locate the starter, it goes into the bellhousing of the transmission, that is where the engine and tranny meet. Easiest way is follow the wires coming from the positive battery post. It will be a big one. There are usually only two bolts holding it on. But first remove the wires going into it. Be careful with the main one coming from the battery, it is not fused and if grounded long enough will blow your battery up.
