SOURCE: my Automatic Renault Truck 420 DCI premium gear lever seems not to be recognized and therefore isnt changing the gears......please help

The following are the general instructions on the start of diagnosing any electronically controlled engine or transmission problem.

The engine and the automatic transmission (transmission control is only for automatics, engine is still computer controlled no matter the transmission type) in this vehicle are computer controlled and in most cases when a fault occurs a fault code is stored in the memory of the computer control module. There are exception to this, such as the Mass Airflow Meter and fuel pressure problems. What must be done is to have all the basic testing done such as a scan of the system for fault codes as well as a check with a live data scanner tool for engine functions that are not within range of normal, a trained technician is required to know what is correct and what isn't, then based on careful diagnostics done from a factory repair manual the correct part is replaced or the wiring repaired or the computer replaced (known as the PCM or ECM,ECU), which is very rarely the problem. Other basic checks must be done as well such as mechanical problems with the engine as well as engine state of tune and mileage on the engine. The transmission can have mechanical issues as well such as no gear engagement at all or a failed pump or other pressure related problems. Also engine mechanical problems can and do cause many drive-ability related problem such as rough idle and other symptoms.

Testimonial: "Dennis, totally agree with you on that. In deed we got to diagnostics and it showed a fault in the gear control unit(lever)- it must have a short circuit on one of the boards. Do you know where i can get a used piece? The truck specs are as below: chassis number:VF622JVA000104024 "

think their hydraulic tappets on this and you squeeze them in to remove the oil then when engine is started they will readjust themselves ,now if engine hasnt had regular oil changes they become gummed up and will not adjust.if you have the other type which are shimmed then go for around 12 inlet and 15 exhaust this setting will suffice for nearly all engines except some older 60s GT engines with high lift cams like the ford capri or a stag .Best engine ever built for commercial use was the gardner ,better than the rolls royce used in the guy trucks with the cheften head ,ascot on the front .Alas the only thing we make in the UK nowdays of which we produce many and thats home grown religious nutters

Oil light stays on , oil level is ok

The light is activated by an an oil pressure switch. With the engine not running there is no pressure so it lights up. When the oil recirculates, the pressure increase and the light goes out. Locate yours and change it, they are fairly inexpensive. If it stays lit after a change it may indicate something more serious.

I have a Renault 420 DCI Premium truck year 2002.I see THEFT DEFECT displayed on the panel. The engine cranks but does not start. What to do?

that would be the immobilizer at work and is stopping the engine from starting
contact the service dealer and ask how to reset the immobilizer
the immobilizer probably activated when you changed the batteries.

Pls the low oil pressure indicator of my Audi A6 V6 car started displaying some 48hrs ago. I have been scared to drive the car since then in other not to get the engine damaged. I have cleaned out the oil...

Hello Kemi1017,

Scared is good (unless you are independently wealthy).

It would be wonderful if your OIL SENSOR (pressure switch)
were suddenly bad... but that is not the way to BET YOUR MONEY.

More likely it is a problem with the OIL PUMP itself or
worse general wear condition of the engine (can't
even properly speculate without the year, mileage and
an operating history of the vehicle...
HELP us to help you: INCLUDE INFORMATION...
AUDI A6 spans decades... Quite a wonderful vehicle
(highly technical, diagnostics that predate industry
on-board diagnostic standards...
(See FACTORY specifications at bottom).

For my MONEY... (FREE services available)
I would look to the MANUFACTURERS TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS and WIRING DIAGRAMS available on BBB Industries website (see bottom, below)... REGISTRATION is required as these are REAL DOCUMENTS..

I would also attempt

Driving a vehicle without adequate oil pressure can
destroy the engine (easily).

If you are not into taking the ALARM seriously...
by all means keep shopping for an ALARM SWITCH
that will fail to tell you... "you are in serious trouble".

Hopefully the CLATTER of your engine will hold
your attention... until you properly address
your OIL PRESSURE PROBLEM.

TIMELY maintenance will hold down costs considerably.

Good luck.

97 Ford F150 4.2L. While driving the oil prsseure gauge will drop and the oil light comes on. It goes back up on its on and the light goes off. Any suggestions of what the problem might be. I was told...

Ray,
This is correct. It is either the oil pump or pressure switch. In any case, both have to be visually inspected and/or replaced as it sometimes is not easy to tell which part is malfunctioning.

I hope this helps, and if it has, please do rate me. Thank you and have a great NFL Sunday!

Oil light keeps coming on

1992 ford explorer with the oil light coming on, this can be due to a bad switch, this switch is called the oil pressure switch and is located near the oil filter area, this would be the cheapest way to go first and if the light still comes on then you will need to have a pressure gauge hooked to where the switch goes and the gauge will tell you if its really low on oil pressure and if it is then this may be due to worn engine bearings or weak oil pump, i will tell you i have not seen an explorer with low oil pressure just needing a oil pump, most of the time it is time for another engine. what =i have seen is alot of them with bad oil pressure switches that were making the oil light come on . hope this is helpful, good luck.

Engine revs take off on there own

Check out the throttle sensor. If its ok then you have a injection pump problem.IF you cannot turrn the engine of when the car starts reving then its running on its own oil.

Renault laguna sports tourer 1.9 dci wont start

Try the relays under the bonnet fuse box 4 small black ones in a line, the first 2 from top cut of the fuel pump, and are a renowned cause of 85% of cranking without starting faults on the dci engine swap them over for the bottom 2 .
If it starts, buy 2 from Renault and fit
if the engine still fails to start the egr valve may be stuck closed starving the engine of air, its on the top of the engine at the air intake and has 3 bolts, remove it and clean it with carb cleaner then check its condition, if it appears ok, replace the cleaned one, if not you need a new one or the turbo will blow its seals and the engine will rev and burn on the engines own oil.
beyond this and your diy fixes are at an end without a obd2 code reader.
