Question about Cars & Trucks
You say it won't crank , what do you mean exactly ? Does the engine turn over when you turn the key to the start position ? You have crank no start condition or you have a no crank no start condition ! If the engine turns over but does not start , is there spark at the spark plugs ? Did you test anything before you replaced parts you didn't need ? Do you have any lights lit on the dash , check engine , security etc.. No Start Diagnostic Basics EricTheCarGuy

Most Fords have a fuel reset button. When you ran out of gas you tripped the circuit. Most of the time the button will be on the passenger side by the kick panel. The exact location should be in your owners manual or your local library or auto parts store will have a copy of one for your specific vehicle.

still won't crank ? how's your battery ? starter ? starter solonoid ? if your engine does'nt crank , its dead ! would'nt you check the battery first ? then move on with checking the starter circuit ? seems like your putting the cart before the horse ! first of all, when you run out of gas, you need to replace the FUEL FILTER, your engine just sucked the dirt, garbage, etc., out of the tank. there's plenty of sediment in the tank, don't know how it gets there, but, you'd be surprized ! talking threw experience !!! I operate heavy equipment, its a cardinal sin to run out of fuel !!! you say you replaced the inline filter, which one, up by the engine or the main filter, under vehicle along frame ? are we talking about the same animal, PLEASE CLARIFY !

I would bet that if you try this it will start every time 1. Turn the key to the run position, do not start, wait for three to five seconds, and then turn the key off. 2. Repeat two more times 3. After the third time start the engine. If it starts right away every time than check the fuel pressure regulator. It is located on the fuel rail right next to where the throttle cable attaches to throttle body. There will be a vacuum hose attached. Remove the hose. If fuel comes out of the regulator replace it immediately.
