The shift lock is powered through the brake switch, which is located on the brake pedal under the dash near the firewall. In order to shift out of Park, the brake pedal must be depressed, closing the circuit to the shift solenoid AND the brake lights through the brake relay. I'd suggest replacing the brake switch.

The brake light stay on

If your referring to the rear brake lights, it can be either a switch or a relay. The switch is located on or near the brake pedal, the relays are located under the hood in a black rectangle compartment. If your referring to dashboard light, I would check for a stuck parking brake.

97 outback impreza brake light wont come on

You need to check the function of the brake light switch, to do this you need a 12 volt test light or a DC volt meter. Go under the dash, remove any panel under the dash above the brake pedal, look up and you will see the switch, probe the connector or of the switch, it should have 12 volts on one side and 12 volts on both sides when the brake pedal is depressed, replace as needed. See picture below of typical switch location. The switch is #4

Hello, i have a 1997 subaru outback sport wagon and the brake lights do not work. the running tailights work. where do i start if its not the bulbs?

Check fuses and then try the brake light switch on the pedal... it should look like below:

You can unplug the switch and close the circuit of the wiring harness with a little pigtail of scrap wire and if the brake lights then work it's the switch.

best wishes!

2000 chevy 4wd silverado no brake lights no power going to the orange wire on the brake light switch any suggestions?

I don't know the color codes for this but you should have one hot all the time and both hot when pedal depressed. No hot, check fuses, one hot with pedal depressed, switch.

I would suspect a mount. Either motor or trans. Also check lateral mount on top of motor to firewall. Good luck and have a great day.

Hello SUBY bro, we've got an 05 Leagcy 2.5i

IMHO you shouldn't be driving on ice unless/maybe your car is equipped with studded tires. Although our cars are awd we'll all be squirrely (and more) on ice......Check this out:

If I understand you correctly, you feel a vibration it the brake pedal when you apply the brakes. Is that correct?
Have your brake rotors re surfaced; they are warped.

"engine makes cavitating noise" ....what does this mean?
