A little valve tick is normal on older cars. Does the ticking get louder as you rev the engine, or does it go away? If it gets louder, you may have a stuck rod and should get it serviced asap. If it goes away, nothing to worry about.

02 Merc Sable loses a little power and oil light flashes

Have you checked the oil level in the engine ?
The oil warning light is for low oil pressure - but it could come on if the engine is low on oil too.

I own a 2002 merc sable, the engine oil light flashes at a idle but the oil is full. Any thoughts on what it could be?

Your oil press swich is going bad or you have sludge or dirt blocking pickup screen in oil pan or the oil pump is getting weak .

Tempature light on H and engine runs HOT and leaking Anti-Freeze underneath. oil light comes on, oil level is full

fix anti freeze leak, the oil sending unit is probably gotten wet and sending a ground reading which causes a false reading or light.

Is it wise to buy a 2002 mercury sable with the 3.0 OHV engine with 28,000 original miles? Are these engines dependable, attaining high mileage (over 200, 000)?

You can probably expect over 200,000 if you keep up on maintnence with regular oil changes and everything but anything with only 28,000 miles is really good!!!

Front wheel drive it wont go into gear and oil sludge on the floor

I suppose you mean that there is oil on the floor where it is parked. It's the same as a Ford Taurus, and I suppose you have a 3.3 engine. Lack of oil in the transmission means that it won't go anywhere. If you fill the transmission with fluid, it will leak out again, but you might be able to drive the car - hopefully to transmission shop to fix it. If the car will not drive with fluid added, then it will have to be taken for repairs. What I do when I have a car that won't drive (and has driven to where it's parked) is to add 2 quarts of transmission fluid and then see if it will move. Normally this works & I can move it into my garage for work. Sometimes it takes 3 or so, but thats usually for full size or pickup transmissions. Rick

4th starter in 1 1/2 years on a 2002 sable

Ask the mech to dissassemble an old starter if it is not turned in for a core. If it is an oil leak are you using a lot of oil to keep it up to the full mark on dipstick. The copper windings in the starter may be soaked with oil, and the oil will attract road grime and dirt and be so clogged that the brushes cannot contack windings and clog up the whole works. Check to see if the valve cover gaskets are leaking down onto starter, they may have vibrated a little loose and just need tightened or replaced. Can really be the only thing that would go wrong with the starter, unless your battery is way to small or way to big. Check CCA, Cold cranking amps with the owners manual for replacement battery size.
