A few things come to mind. Have you checked the switch on the interior light ?. Most switches have 3 positions .OFF, ON , DOOR , Make sure it is on the door position. If ok there, the fault may be in the door switch, there is one button type switch on each door opening, most switches can be removed by pulling them out. replace a faulty switch.

I have a 2005 jetta and the dome lights don't come on when any doors open

I assume if the interior light didn't work at all you would have said so.

When the interior light works but the courtesy light function doesn't the culprit is usually the door switch or switches.
Sometimes located at or near the striker plate the pillar at the door hinge end is a more common location for the switch to be (usually) secured with a single screw, though sometimes a rubber cover must be removed to access the screw.

The function of the switch is to ground a single wire when the door is opened. Sometimes a switch must be replaced and sometimes a thorough clean and a spot of lubrication will put matters right.

F 150 DOOR AJAR WILL NOT GO OFF AND INTERIOR LIGHT STAYS ON! HOW DO I FIX IT

If only the door ajar light and interior light is not working it is probably the door ajar switch located on the door latch inside the door. sometimes a little WD40 sprayed towards lower side of the latch will work, frees the piston in the switch. if not the switch must be replaced. If also the outside mirror control does not work, the door lock switch also does not work, it is a bad ground to those three systems, the Electric windows have a separate ground wire and still work. You must feed a new black wire from a good ground on the body thru the door accordion tube and connect it to the larger black wire on the plug that goes to the door lock switch. The door lock, the mirror control, the door ajar light, and the interior light problem will be gone.

Battery failed and lights flashing?
Parking lights will flash when the vehicle's battery is disconnected and reconnected.
To stop lights from flashing, either:
Press remote transmitter "UNLOCK" button once OR turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position and press programming button for one second (see below).
The vehicle interior (courtesy) light and door open warning light (DOOR AJAR indicator) will then illuminate for 60 seconds when the ignition is turned off, or until the doors are locked with the remote transmitter. Yes, the dashboard instrument panel lights will flash when the parking lights flash.

Programming or Overriding the Alarm when you have lost the remote
Open driver's door.
Turn ignition key to 'On'
Press and *hold programming button* in (see diagram, button under dashboard)
After 15 seconds the the door locks will cycle 3 times. Do not release Programming button.
Press lock (left) button the remotes to be programmed. The door locks will cycle one time. Exit programming mode by releasing Programming button under dashboard and turning key to off.

codealarmremote1.jpgCode Alarm Programming Button is under dashboard on the kick panel by the driver's left knee, left of the steering column. If you can't find it, it might still be tucked up in the wiring harness higher up in that same general area. The botton is recessed in a plastic ring (see diagram).
This button must be pressed while programming remotes or if the battery was disconnected and the lights are flashing.

Is there a fuse for the auto door locks?

Yes but if the interior lights are working then its getting power, i would check the switch itself, and also check the wires coming into the door there located where the door hinges are, inside the rubber boot, remove the boot anmd take a good look at that bunch of wires they sometimes break in half, it may be hard to see you need to check wire by wire, hope this helps.

The power controls on the driver side door are not working.

the problem could lie in the drivers door loom between door and body there is a rubber hose which holds wiring, you need to pull this back and check for a broken wire within and then repair the wire to solve problems

Where is the door contact switch?

Hiya
Check all 4 doors to see what works and doesn't work, be sure the interior domelight switch is set to turn on automatically when any door is open as well try the radio then open the 4 doors to see if it turns off...if your driver's side door don't work as you stated then that should be the door's "at fault".

GM built the door contact switch that's installed INSIDE the door-it's located inside the door striker/jamb area...it require removal of door trim to gain access.

However, you might want to try this visual inspection:
Check the thick wire harness located between the front-left door and door sill frame to see if any wire has been disconnected/cut or tampered with by previous owner.
