Why won't it crank?

And it is not the battery. Will sometimes start in neutral. Will not turn over in park!

Sometimes my 1997 Ford explorer will start and other times it does not. What could be the problem. The battery is fine and I recently had the battery cables replaced.

Could be as simple as the neutral switch out of position if it sometimes won't crank over. Turn the switch on, depress the brake, and pull it to neutral position to see if will crank. If it will, readjust the neutral switch while in park position.

2004 Honda Odyssey won't start or try to turn

You tried it in neutral but did you take it out of park and force it back into park? Just a suggestion since sometimes the switch that tells it that it is in park needs a bit of a nudge sometimes.

If it will crank in neutral but not in park, the neutral safety switch should be tested.

To clarify - the engine cranks then starts.
If it won't crank in any gear, I would check the neutral safety switch first.
You can also jumper the starter solenoid to make sure the starter will crank the engine manually without the circuit from the key switch.

The Neutral safety switch in the Transmission is the problem. If it doesn't send the signal to the computer when it is in park it won't crank over. Replace the Neutral safety switch and the problem should be resolved. Make sure you check the linkage for proper adjustment if you have a center console shift. That doesn't actually connect directly to the transmission except through a linkage and it may show to be in park but not actually be fully engaging in park. Sometimes you can turn the lower part of the steering column by hand to get it to lock fully in park if this is the case with your situation then for sure it is the linkage being out of adjustment.

My truck seems lock and it won't turn on or even crankbut all electric works.

1)try jumping the battery.sometimes lights will work, but the battery will supply no where the current needed to start it.
2)the safety neutral switch thinks it is in gear,so will not let it crank over, there is a mechanical override by the shifter.pop out the tab ,insert the key and it will go into neutral.if the battery is good,it should start.
