Question about 2008 Mercury Mariner

1 Answer

It overheats when driving. worse at high speeds. Have replaced thermostat twice, water pump and flushed cooling system. Dealer said radiator was bad? They did a block test and it was good.

The dealer replaced the radiator because they said it was malfunctioning. it did not fix the problem. they want to do heater core and a water pump again.

Engine running hot , not thermostat , not fans

Some of the cars have 2 speeds for the fan. The high speed on the fan or the high speed relay could be bad. Then you could have a clogged radiator or cooling system needing a backflush. Some Quickchange oil companies will flush a cooling system while you sit in the car.

Its not impossible for the thermostat to act up if the system is dirty.

2001 mustang...6 cylinder. Car overheats at slow driving speeds with ac on. Temp goes to the H on temp guage, but not over redline but almost. Electric fan running. Ford dealer flushed radiator and changed...

Check that the water pump drive belt is tight
Check that the cylinder head is not blowing.
Check the impleor on the water pump is not eroded
Check theair flow through the radiator is ok.
Check electric cooling fans operates if fitted.
Are you driving in to low a gear?
Are the brakes draging?
Check to see if you have some contaninated fuel
Check that the correct ignition time is ocurring at all engine speeds.

My nissan serena overheat twice, but the radiator was recently clean and the fan was working well. what seems to be the problem?

It can be many things. You need to drain the cooling system, flush the system, replace the thermostat, and pour in a 50/50 mix of the proper antifreeze and distilled water. If it overheats again replace the thermal relay for the cooling fan as it may not be coming on when it should.

CHECK WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE IF LEAKING. BECAUSE OF SHAFT BEARING FAILURE CAUSE CAR TO OVERHEAT. MAKE SURE COOLING FAN WORKING CHECK FUSE AND RELAY.SCAN CAR TO MAKE SURE THE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR WORKING.IT CONTROLS FAN OPERATION.BESURE YOU ARE USING CORRECT COOLANT MIXTURE.YOU NEED 50 % ANTIFREEZE AND 50 % WATER. TO RAISE BOILING POINT.TOO MUCH WATER IN COOLANT SYSTEM WILL CAUSE CAR TO OVERHEAT.

Presurize system with radiator cap on to see if you are holding 10 to 13 LB pressure as high as 17 LB. Get new radiator cap for your radiator. Check for a slow leak at pump hose thermostat conection , is it wet ?
