SOURCE: 000 NISSAN Xterra -- after warming up, loses RPM by 500-1000..... have replaced ignition wires and distributor, checked mass air flow sensor and OK.....

I had a problem on my Nissan Xterra 2000. Symptons sound similar. In my case, it ran fine for a while and then suddenly the engine starts to stumble and lose output. At one point it did not even have enough HP to move. Irregular idling too. Thought it was water in my fuel. Bought water remover from the store and added to gas tank. Problem did not go away. Instead, "Service Engine Soon" light came on. Had to have it towed to the dealer as there was no way the engine could keep up with traffic. Dealer replaced the "Crank Position Sensor" today. Parts $33.00, Labor: $300 (about 3 hrs worth of work). Seems to work fine now but I will wait and see. Dealer also stated that Distributor bearing appears to be noisy and will need to be replaced sooner or later. I will wait for it to go before I fix that.

SOURCE: my nissan xterra will turn

If it has spark at the plugs, then it's most likely a fuel issue. You should have an electric fuel pump, so if you turn the key to the "on" position (not the "start" position to crank it over), you should hear the fuel pump prime. It's a humming noise. Have someone turn the key while you kneel next to the back of the truck by the tank so you can listen for it. If there is no noise at all, you most likely aren't getting fuel to the throttle body/injectors. If you hear the hum of the fuel pump, then check to make sure fuel is getting in the engine. Easiest way to check that is to crank it over for a while, then pull one of the plugs. If the plug is wet and smells like gas, then it's not a fuel delivery problem with the throttle body/injectors. If no fuel is getting to the engine, the first thing you should check is the fuel filter if you haven't changed it regularly. An engine only needs 3 things to start. Air, fuel and spark. If all of those are present, then the problem is much deeper (timing belt, etc.) and will need to be looked at. Hope this at least gets you pointed in a direction to troubleshoot it.

How do I know the numbers for the spark plugs to a 2000 nissan exterra 6 cylinder suv?

the misfire could also be the coil that is what send's the spark to the distributor, if it is weak it will cause a random mis fire code for any cylinder, the plug wire's on my 2000 xterra are numbered it will be the second plug on the driver's side of the engine, the cam sensor will also give a mis fire code if it is malfunctioning, I have a 2000 xterra that is a night mare when it come's to code's and repair's it is not alway's the first thing you think with these vehicle's, try to change all the plug's and dis connect the battery for 20 minutes then hook it back up and run down to your local autozone or pep boy's and have them hook up an OBD to see if it is fixed or if another code appear's

The battery keeps dying on my 2001 nissan xterra. when the car is turned off the hot cable is still drawing fire from the battery causing it to die. I took out the security fuse and it fixed the problem,...

I guess its a common problem for xterras just to die when driving huuh lol.... just like all of you. i was driving and mine died at a stop light to lol.... people keep telling me that it might be the timing belt or distributor ( if you remove the distributor cap and someone turns the key a little, if the rotor spins that means the distributor took a dump.. and if the rotor dont spin the timing belt took a dump... i will be checking this out to see if its true this weekend..

Looking for distributor wire diagram

If your engine is a four cylinder, the firing order is as follows; from left to right on the block..1-2-3-4...look at the top of the distributor cap: counter clockwise from #1, the order is...1-3-4-2. If your engine is a six cylinder, face the front of the engine...left bank is: 1-3-5...right bank is: 2-4-6...look at top of distributor cap starting with counter clockwise...1-2-3-4-5-6. Let me know how you make out. Master

Nissan 2001 eterra want fire up after i ranout of gas

sounds like your not getting fire! I would check to the distributor, the coil is inside the distributor. If you have acess to a good used distributor, then switch them out real quick. It's very easy and it might solve your problem. Just mark where the rotor inside the distributor is pointing, and when you drop the distributor in make sure to align the rotor button in the exact position. If it still doesn't fire then you'll know that's it's not the dist. I hope this helps!
