Did you change the distributor? Could have put it back in the wrong direction or forward too much on the timing notch or put too plug wires on the wrong post..... It definitely sounds like a timing issue and the back fire sounds like the plug is firing the cylinder on the intake stroke.... if you keep at it you will blow your muffler off or start a fire. Look up the firing sequence for your year and make of car to be sure

1990 ford bronco idles fine when you accelerate the gas loses power and backfires through the intake

Fuel delivery problem, not enough fuel on acceleration could cause backfires. Many things cause backfires, mechanical and electronic. I need more info to give a better diagnosis. Did the problem happen all of a sudden or has the vehicle been running crappy for awhile.

Backfire through intake no accelleration, reset to normal by turning off and on ignition switch

This sound electrical like bad coil or even timing as when it backfires the sensors put it into limp mode which usually resets itself when turned off and restarted. Take the truck to Autozone and get a free diagnostic reading and when they plug it in it will give you a trouble code. They will tell you what the trouble code means or you can enter it in your search engine and you will get lots of info on what it could be with probably lots of other people that had the same issue and how they resolved it.

Hi I'm new to this site , I have been asked to close Q I have asked already but don't know how on my iPhone to close then please help

There are two kinds of backfires, one is produced from the engine air intake and the other is produced from the tail pipe of the exhaust system. The cause for a backfire condition can vary depending on the malfunction of a particular system. Some backfires can be extreme enough to cause damage to related components. Anytime a backfire is observed immediately diagnose and repair as needed. If the engine is running rough it can produce a backfire. A backfire occurs when there is an imbalance in the air to fuel ratio required for your vehicle to operate properly. If the fuel mixture is too lean (not enough fuel) you may have a backfire in the intake manifold gasket, or too rich (too much fuel) you may get a backfire out of the exhaust system. It is important to observe the location of the backfire.

I have a 180E 1991 model that is hard to start and when it does start it has a bit of a miss sometimes when starting it backfires/pops through air cleaner, others days just won't start

BACK FIRING AND HARD STARTING COULD BE CAUSED BY LOW FUEL PRESSURE CAUSED BY WORN FUEL PUMP.STOP UP FUEL FILTER AND STOPPED UP FUEL INJECTORS.IF ALL IS GOOD LOOK FOR VACUUM LEAKS AT INTAKE HOSES AND INTAKE MANIFOLD.WORN VALVES WILL CAUSE MISSING AND BACKFIRING.

Sudden loss of power, Backfiring, starts then stalls

Your timing belt could be broken. You want to have this checked as soon as possible to prevent any further engine problems.
