Sound like fuel problem,Vehicle needs a set amount of pressure to spay out of the injectors,this atomization ensure proper comustion,If it was MAF(mass air flow) obviously you would be able to restart,but would complain about hesitation,When you step on the gas you apply a load on the engine and a good working fuel pump ensure it meets that load
