Question about 1998 Ford Crown Victoria
Discorrect the negitive battery terminal .
Jack up the front I belive its on the drivers side if I remember correctly ware the engine and transmission bolt together .You just need to get it high enough so you can get under the vehicle but PUT A JACK STAND under the vehicle after you jack it up .
The rest is easy remove the 2 large bolts mounting the starter to the block you may need to find the correct aditude to turn it to get to slide out but it will come out .Bring a block of wood or something to rest it on the wires may not be long enough to reach the ground .
Remove the large copper nut for the power cable and the smaller wire witch will likely be a plug in connecter.
Install in reverse order you will need a 5/8 s scocket and a 12 or 13 mm box wrench for the copper nut .clean the contact cable to the starter it needs to be a good conection fine sand paper .

There should only be two bolts holding it on all u have to do is disconnect the power wire then the ground wire and take the rwo bolts off and you should be fine.
If when u start the install of the new starter and the bolts are having a hard time lining up you can get a scissor jack to push it up in just the right spot. Also whenever your working with electricity disconnect the battery

yes they are very difficult to get to.
its just the top one and some mechanics leave them out after starter replacement.
it sounds bad but true.
i use either a stubby 10 mm wrench and a prybar to break it loose,
or a 3/8 ratchet and a wobble extenion and socket. it has to be the perfect length using different extensions to reach and still fit with the ratchet handle at the back of the starter.
sorry but it can be done.....
no stubby wrench, cut one
