If it is white smoke from the tail pipe then it is a blown head gasket.... very serious and the boys are right don't fire it up cause it will only get worse and unless you would like to start shopping for a new car get it towed and fixed... blueish smoke from tailpipe is oil burning which is just a pain in the neck just keep the oil topped off... if it is coming from the engine compartment and not the tail pipe it isn't as serious just fluid on engine.

When the white smoke is coming out of the exhaust, you have blown your head gasket. Don't start the engine again, till the gasket is replaced.

I would check very carefully for oil dripping on the hot exhaust system somewhere. I assume it does not occur until the exhaust system is "hot"?

I have a 2002 Impreza that has a miss at times but not all the time, the engine light blinks part time.I have changed the plugs but no help.Any suggestions.Thank you.

the engine light blinking during the miss means misfire is occuring and damage to convertors is possible, use a spray bottle full of water and spray ignition system coil, wires etc... if their is a fault with these components you will see some arcing occur, then you fou nd the problem, you also may need to power brake the engine to create a load and find the problem good luck!

I drive a vw jetta 2003 gls 1.8t. a few days ago the engine dash light started blinking. the car was hard to drive, accelerating with difficulty and shook when stopped. we took it in for repair, they...

Guys, what you are experiencing is the car built warning system. When your engine light blinks it indicates a Major Problem has occurred or is occurring in the engine. When this occurs the cars goes into a "safe," mode which means all power is cut by at least half in an effort to save the car from more major damage. You can take your VW to any large chain autoparts store (autozone, advance, etc) a lot of them are offering a free engine diagnosis. Do this if possible to see where the problems maybe coming from and ways to fix them.
