I am not familiar with Volkswagon products, per se, but the basics are the same. Is your clutch hydraulic? They tend to go without notice. If it is not - there may be adjustment in your system. If there is no smell and you are still able to drive ok - I am not sure what the problem is. If in fact you do need a new "kit" - do not replace just part of the kit since the labour cost of putting in a part latter would outway any advantage at this point. I did this as a teen in one of my vehicles by not replacing the throw out bearing and it failed long before the new clutch was even close to being worn out.

Hi i have a peugeot 406 2.0 hdi 1999, when i get in the car the clutch pedal is on the floor and i have to pump the pedal for a couple of minutes, then it is ok to drive. any ideas what is wrong with it?

The clutch acting system is hydraulical, (clutch hydraulic system).
Your clutch pedal master cylinder is weak, and needs to be replaced or repaired by gasket kit replacement. Also the clutch slave cylinder can be used, and needs to be repaired (by gasket kit replacement), or replaced. The clutch system must be bled after carrying out work on the hydraulic clutch mechanism.

Clutch is noisy, when i depress the clutch the noise goes away

this noise is caused by a noisy clutch throw-out/release bearing, that is the part that presses against the pressure plate and disengages the clutch disk, the transmission must be removed to replace this part, so it is best to replace the clutch assembly at the same time, the labor for both is the same, about 5 hours

How to choose the best clutch kit

you need to match your new clutch to the old one the only concern you should have is the torque value it should always be the same or exceed the the factory specs but if you exceed the torque it can be no more than 15% greater than factory specs.also remember to change the input shaft bearing/bushing in the crank
