Located a chilton for 1998 jeep will it work for 1992 jeep cherokee. need to replace the alternator

Disconnect (-) ground cable from battery and replace alternator. Reinstall the (-) ground cable after installing the alternator to avoid arcing and possible damage to the new alternator. Always wear safety glasses when working with car batteries. An explosion and acid burn hazard exist.

Look in the Chilton manuals or ask your local parts dealer. Be sure the engine is cold when changing them.

invest in a chiltons or similar repair manual / the hard way is to find fuse link in the fuse box and follow the schematics or wiring back to its home position. the easy way is to ask the dealer

Alternator has to be on the work bench & come apart

I can assure you that isn't necessary

The commutator would be worn out first &
most likely other parts, before any brushes,
if they are even avail anymore
