How do i resolve Low oil pressure & tuppets now making noise

Its one of two things:
  1. Faulty Oil Pressure Switch
  2. Faulty/Blocked Oil Pump

The only way to be sure is to either just replace the switch (At cost) and see if that cures the warning/light or remove the oilpressure switch and screw in a mechanical oilpressure tester to confirm the oil pressure as being actually low or not.

Where is the oilpressure switch

On a Freelander 1 1.8l petrol its located when standing in front facing the engine, to your lower left side is the oil filter. The switch is located on that same housing where the oil filter connects.

Oilpressure switch replacement

The engine is probably a 4.6 V-8,correct? The sending switch is down under the driver's side of the engine, and unscrews from a housing.
It's at the same location in general as the oil filter.Very easy to access. You can get a tool from Auto-Zone(just pay a tool deposit, refundable)which will make it simple to remove and install a new one.
A little teflon tape on the threads, just on the very last 1/2",will help seal it tightly.Don't overtighten it.

Where is the oilpressure switch located

The oil pressure sending unit, which includes the switch and the sensor, is screwed into the top of the oil filter adapter on the front side of the engine.

YOU SHOULD CHECK OILPRESSURE ,SOME OF THESE HAVE A SREEN IN THE PUMP-PICKUP THAT GOES BAD SO THE OILFLOW GETS LOW . SOME TIMES YOU HAVE TWO OILPRESSURE SWITCHES ON THESE ENGINES , IF THATS THE CASE , CHANGE BOTH ,

Car overheated, big boom under hood, black smoke out of back, speedometer dropping, oilpressure dropping and then car died. 94 eagle talon 5 spd

The engine has seen it's final days of providing secure and unproblematic performance. Where there is smoke, there is fire. overheating is the worst thing that can happen to an internal combustion engine.

Oilpressure gauge indicates low to almost no oil pressure

You may want to hook up an external oil pressure gauge
to the engine to ease your mind. This would give you a regular number of the pressure. Compare it to the factory gauge in the dash. Those in dash gauges were not all that precise. If the engine is not having bearing noise I can see nothing to worry about.

Oilpressure switch location

Left top of your oil filter. It has a electrical connector on it. The 2000 caravan shows the Oil pressure sender next to the filter. The Knock sensor is on the other side of the filter in front of the starter. Good luck and hope this helps.

Oilpressure

I am not 100% familiar with the engine you have. Being a mitsu 4-cylinder, I'm assuming it's the 2.4L (aka 4g64).

I ran into a few problems in the past with the oil sending units on Mitusbishi engines. The oil sending unit(or oil pressure switch) sends the reading to the gauge inside the car. They have one prong and a small wire that goes to them. It's easy for these to get knocked off or damaged. That is the first thing I would check.

If you're not sure where that switch is located, you can check out this diagram (Mitsubishi Engine manual). Look at the diagrams on page 8 or 9(depending on which engine you have). They will show you where the oil pressure switch should be located.

Thank you for your question, and please let me know if I can help with anything else.
