Replace the ignition switch. Usually only two wires to the starter. One big and one small. You can't reverse them.

I have a 2007 jeep liberty. Ive repaced all relays and battery and battery cables still wont start

hello Sharon,
im guess is towing it to a shop is not in the cards.
so want to learn car repair in 5min?
first is cranking, does it crank properly
if not it will never start,
that is called a no crank failure.
starting is vastly more complex and even more keeping it running past the 3second jeep rule of "ASD"
try to post symptoms. fully, i care what parts were changed,
i assume all parts are bad on car, then prove im wrong with tools.
first i say the starter is silent , is it?
if yes, can you crank with shift'er in Neutral>? with your a/t trans.
automatic trans, ?

My starter went out in my 2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette. I replace it with a brand new starter, without key in ignition the starter was winding as soon as I reconnected the battery. However, while doing...

You hooked it up wrong . Is there power at the purple wire all the time ?
ignition the starter was (winding ) ???as soon as I reconnected the battery. The starter cranks the engine !It's really called a cranking motor not starter . Do you know where that comes from ? Before electric starters you cranked the engine by hand . Suggest you take it to a qualified repair shop.

My car will not crank at all

great symptom, we speak dead cranks.
  1. do jumper cable to donor runnning car crank now?>
  2. yes, bad or just discharged battery (and causes more)
  3. no, then hot wire the starter solenoid.
  4. cranks no ? then the starter is bad (bad cables)
cranks yes, then the key line is dead.
if key line is dead, wiggle shifter, cranking, or try neutral,
neutral cranks work because the contacts are virgin there.
i guessed A/T tranny so if im wrong, do SAY !

Why would 350 engine start turning over when i hook battery cable up with key off?

You said motor my guess is that you pinched the small terminal wire on the starter solenoid or maybe bent the heat shield on the starter when the wires or terminals are closed or shorted the starter cranks check there 1st and then back track the wires up from there

double posted. see other post.
you need to post what you had and and what you put in.
the 1995 has no crank sensor. sorry.
back one post and tell car getting fixed,
year and engine, and donor year and engines.

my wild guess, is new engine is 1995 but is it 8v or 16valves.
you must match the valves.!!~
the 8v is a one injector engine
the 16valve is 4 injectors ,and totally different ECU and wiring.

please id both engines.
is your car newer than the engine?
weve done this many times.

here is G16b for G16b drop. 1997. same for same
if had 95 G16b going to 97
id have swapped pans, oil pump and crank sensor.
onto new engine.

Want crank

you probley left one of the little wires on the solinoid, off of the post with the 5/16s nut [small one] .or put it on the wrong post.. it has to be something to do with the way you hooked up your wires . the car would still crank if the alternator was installed incorrectly and your batter was charged . try charging the battery first see if it cranks.

Got a reading on crank shaft sensor. put a new one on it and still wont crank. got new plugs and wires new fuel filter too.

Could be a bad crank shaft, thats what the sensor is for to tell you there is some thing wrong with the crankshaft

I have a Cadillac STS 2002 and it cuts off when driving when you take your foot off the gas. I have put it on a machine and it shows nothing but there is got to be something wrong it cranks when it wants...

A good Tech and a good scanner should be able to access the ' freeze frame ' thats shows a history of the components when the problem occours. This should give you a direction on which way to proceed, Guessing can very expensive fast.
