Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

Battery charger just quit working. Checked all fuses, and the 120v outlet that it was plugged into, and its good. Can anyone suggest anything

Looking for someone to help me with a break down of parts and where to start testing each part. Not to mention how to test it.

Lighter plug seems burnt out

Even if the fuse shows no signs of being blown (one such sign might be a black spot), you might want to try a different fuse of the same amperage to make sure.
If the fuse is good, you have more work to do. Check whether power is getting to the outlet by testing it with a voltmeter or circuit tester. If the voltmeter shows power is reaching the outlet, the outlet itself is probably damaged from repeated use or simple misuse. Though chargers and other plug-ins are supposed to be of uniform size, some may be bigger or smaller than others.
time to get a new outlet then.

I have a 1985 dodge w150 5.2. The heater will not blow its not making noise or anything. Today the turn signals quit working, i have flashers but no turn signal any suggestion

Turn signals work off a separate flasher. they still did in my 90 Bronco and brother's 88 Ramcharger. Flasher relays are usually on or near the fuse box.
Check blower fuse(in fuse box). check the resistor near plug for blower(if charred looking, replace). Check blower by supplying battery voltage to motor(if it spins, it's good)

pqtrahan, I don't know where the fuse is located, but, my advice to you is to test all the fuses in the passenger and engine compartment and replace any that are bad. You may find what you are looking for. Good luck with this.

My electric outlets do not work, what could be the problem? Not excatly sure what they are called, maybe AC outlets? The one's that you can use to charge your cell phone. I have 2 up front and 1 in the...

It sounds like a fuse problem. have you checked the fuses yet? If not, look in your owners manual to see which fuses, and where they are, are related to the electrical outlets you are refering to. If you cannot tell by looking at the fuse if it is blown, use a voltmeter set to continuity. Hope this helps

1996 Cavalier 12 Volt power outlet in car doesn't work right?

Even thought the plug in is 12 volt. It's ouput is different. Most electronics have different ranges from 3-9 volts.
Does the 12 volt charger put out 12 volts? If so, it would burn up the electronics' capacitors on their power supplies.
How is the car's electronics doing? Are they too failing? If so, that would be a faulty voltage regulator, if not, I would hook up anything you use to the radio wires.
You cannot plug in anything directly to battery no matter what the person told you. Batteries charge, than release charge, a contiuous cycle. The power output is speratic and anything hooked straight up to the battery will need a fuse.

Power outlet in dash quit working

If you are referring to the cigarette lighter check the fuse in the fuse box. I sometimes over load mine with computer, chargers, GPS you get the idea and it pops.

No power to cigarette lighter/power outlet (front & rear)..

Replace the 15 amp ACC fuse that is in the fusebox under the dash. See if this eliminates your problem.
