SOURCE: 1996 Subaru Legacy No Power At All

Last night I checked the battery and it was still good. I disconnected and then reconn ected both terminals and that brought the power back. When I turned the key the power went out again. I repeated the procedure but did not turn the key. Instead, I took off the knee bolster and tried to wiggle the wires under the dash to see if I could find the source since it seems to be related to the ignition. Nothing cut the power so I started it up and it worked fine except for the check engine light which was flashing that says I have a misfire condition. I drove the car 25 miles to work this morning and will be taking it to the dealer for a better inspection.

Try cleaning the fuel pump filter. Under the seat behind the driver lift the carpet and you will find a round cover with six screws remove the cover. The fuel pump is directly below unscrew the retaining round plate and remove the pump. At the base of the pump is a small filter if it is covered in black muck that's your problem. clean and replace. job takes about 10 mins good luck. please let me know how you got on!

SOURCE: wont always start

Did anyone check the clutch interlock switch? It's possible the position is out of adjustment. My 2008 SRT4 is right at the bottom. If you don't push the clutch ALL the way down, it won't start.

If it is an automatic transmission it probably needs transmission fluid. If a standard shift check and adjust shift linkage.

SOURCE: heeeelp! turns over but wont start. changed gas filter, cap, rotor.

Are you sure it is getting spark to the plugs? Did you check fuel pressure? It still may be getting some fuel but not enough. Is it fuel injected or car berated?

Stalling problem

It is difficult to diagnose random problems and it is possible that the service dealer fixed the fault without knowing it. IN checking the mechanic may have pushed wire connections to make sure they were tight, moved the harness to get to the ECM and in doing so fixed the fault. fault codes only read sensors that are out of parameters set by the CPU in the ECM and there are a multitude of other faults that are not recorded

Sounds like the starter. If you can locate it,tap on it with a hammer 3 or 4 times and try to restart. It may take several tries but should eventually start because starters don't quite fail 100%,they just kind of get stuck. If you can't find the starter, call a couple of parts stores or a dealer, someone is always willing to tell you for free to attract your business. It should work and you need a new starter.I put in a used one a couple of years ago and no problems yet,but the decision is yours.Good luck! Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.

Brand new 08 Ford Sport Trac (2 hr old) - won't start

Sounds like the battery may be bad. You could remove it and take it to a mechanic or parts store and have them test it for you. Mechanic might charge you 15bucks or so. Most parts stores will test it for free and gladly sell you a new one.
