The shock is designed to stop spring oscillation causing bounce. Are the shocks in good working order

I have a 2008 Nissan Maxima, at 70mph the rear left tire seems to have a wheel balance problem, the tire makes a funny noise and the rear end shakes. The tire is wearing uneven also. Is this a wheel...

To check and see if it is a strut problem push down on the rear of the vehicle. the car should only bounce 1 to 2 times once released go from side to side if it bounces more than 2 times that shows a worn strut. You can also jack the vehicle up and check the rear tire for play. if you have play it could be a strut or a trailing arm bushing.

When a strut is worn, what are symptons? How can one diagnose it? KIA Sephia 1998?..

some times you will get a bouncing in wheel ,nose dive in front end when stopping or hard breaking, did you try jacking up car so wheel is just off ground ,put a bar under tire and lift up observe wheel movement ,then do other wheels , if it is a strut the wheel will move up and down freely , look for fluid leaking around strut body ,5000 miles is not much of a factor things do break.the other is get the front end off the ground both wheels,SAFELY !!!!!! WITH THE CAR SHUT OFF WHEELS BLOCKED, have one person turn wheel while you observe it , look for anything wrong grab the wheel and try to move left to right (a small ) motion observe what happens ,is there wiggle ? with out moving steering wheel. if not sure of any of these ,PLEASE take it to a mechanic .hope this helps good luck. Feels like back right wheel bounces as driving it. Any suggestions

The strut may be worn out. Try bouncing that corner of the car up and down. It should not continue to bounce after you've pushed it down and up a few times. If it does, time for strut/shock replacement.

I have 1998 Mercury Sable DOC. I have some vibrating in the front end, I have had bearings, ball joints, brake pads, rotors, calipers, tie rod ends replaced and the vehicle still shakes. I notice it more...

OK, I would change the tires if I had vibrating in the front end after all of that work.

Have the wheels/tires spin balanced in the front and have the tire tech check for out of roundness as it spins on the electronic balancer.

I wouldn't be surprised if the tires were out of round.

I usually recommend Goodyear or Michelin tires with an A traction and A or B Temperature rating and a long treadlife warranty (60,000 mi. or above) to get a rock solid feel in the front end at all speeds.

I just solved such a problem on my 1997 Cadillac Deville Limousine which had used Goodyear Integrity tires and replaced them with new Goodyear Assurance Tires which solved a front end and general body vibration at highway speeds.

Good luck on getting new tires for your vehicle, and hope the shakiness goes away!

FRONT TIRE BOUNCE AT 40-50 MPH

relace your shocks. the design of any dampner(strut or shock design) is to return the wheel to the road for handling and safety. when the shock is worn out is with continue to bounce like a basketball. it has no more strength to return to wheel to the road. a common misconception is that they are there to absorb, not true. the springs or torsion bars are there to absorb and create ride height. the shock does nothing more then return the wheel to the road. simple and inexpensive.
