Even steel rims sometimes corrode onto hubs but aluminium rims are the worst.
Mostly I use a heavy shot-filled mallet to shift them but I have needed to resort a few times to hot water to expand the wheel a little before really going crazy hitting it with a four foot length of six by four timber.

I haven't yet had to resort to loosening the nuts and going for a drive but people maintain their vehicles much less these days so I am sure that time is getting closer.

Aluminum rim is corroded to the hub.Put one nut on loosely and hit back of tire with a hammer and it will usually come loose. I normally give tire several kicks at top and bottom to loosen.

I have a flat tire, but do not have the special tool to take off the bolt. Any ideas? 2010 Honda CRV

Most auto parts stores have Locking Lug Nut removal tools. If you know the size of your lug nut you may be able to buy a single tool that fits on a standard ratchet to remove the locking lug nut. If your lug nut is the type that spins without the proper tool to remove it, your best bet is a mechanic with the proper equipment to avoid doing damage to the wheel or stud.

Good luck!

I cant get the rear tire off my 1999 jeep grand cherokee i took off the lug nuts and the tire will not budge

You have Aluminum/mag wheels? If so, you have corrosion that has fused the wheel to the hub. Go get som PB Blaster at the auto parts store. Spray where the lugs are and if possible. at the 12 o'clock position of the hub to let it soak. You may need to get a heavy mallet to hit this from behind later afte soaking for 30 minutes.

Took off lug nuts but tire won't come off

common issue. take out your spare tire and use it to hit the inside of the wheel. this will knock it loose and save you excessive effort. once you are done you get anti sieze and apply it to the centre of the hub and install the wheel. torque is about 90 ft lbs..

How do you change a tire on a honda crv? I need to get the tire off the back door and change the driver side front tire. Where does the jack go?

The owners manual shows where to put the jack. I no manual sometimes there are illustrations where the jack is stored in its compartment. First loosen the lug nuts before you jack up the vehicle, prevents the tire from turning. After jacking up the vehicle finish removing the lug nuts then remove the tire. The spare tire on the door may have a locking lug nut which requires a key to unlock before removing the lug nuts. Key us usually on the ignition key ring. Remove the lug nuts and put tire on the drivers side. Tighten up the nuts on the wheel and after the car is let down from the jack, finish tightening the lug nuts.

The lug nuts on my 2003 Subaru Outback seem to come loose. It's worse with the front wheels. Recently 3 lugs on one wheel were ready to fall off when I discovered the problem. What can I do about it? Is...

are the rotors, rusty?? salt area??? aluminum? steel? lug studs clean? threads in lug nuts good? lightly oiled? the wheels must be clean and all mating surfaces clean, then the lug nuts should be torqued to spec 60-80lbs? maybe torque them and drive a few miles and torque them again, then again after a week.

Mechanics keep on breaking my lug nuts,Why?

Over tightening. They are probably using an impact wrench to tight the lugs because its the fastest way. Its not the right way though.
Here is what happens. When the nuts are tightened, the studs will stretch. This tension holds the wheels on to the rim. If you over tighten the studs you can damage them and they could fail. The best approach is to use an impact wrench to snug up the nuts. Then go back with a torque wrench and tighten to the manufacturer specifications.(lug nut torque for your vehicle is 110 ft-lbs ) Next time you are having your tires rotated or changed, make sure the mechanic uses a torque wrench and the correct torque.

Tire troubl 95 geo prizm

what happens is there is corosion that is holding the rim to the hub with the lug nuts off you need to break the corosion by giving the tire a hard donkey kick. if that doesnt work take a large hammer and beat on the outter rim to break it loose.
good luck
