Is the check engine light on? It is possibly a faulty camshaft or crankshaft sensor causing you the grief. They are electronic and once they get old can fail when hot causing a no start condition. When the electronics cool down, they will operate normally again. Have the vehicle scanned for codes pertaining to these sensors. I would guess more at the crankshaft sensor being a problem especially on a higher mileage engine. The MAF sensor is also common to fail on these vehicles as well. Scan for codes to determine if there is a sensor problem and to point you in the right direction

sounds like your fuel system may be gummed up. Try seafoam. Could be fuel pump. Is this carbureted or EFI. Check fuel pump.

here are a few possibilitys, a bad fuel pressure regulator . the vehicle runs rough, the engine will not start ( usually in mornings ) many times engine starts but stalls shortly after starting. a bad regulator can result in fouled plugs. replacement is only cure. black soot on plugs, blake smoke from tailpipe, running rough, stalling. make sure fuel filter is not plugging up. or low fuel pressure from fuel pump. check fuel pressure regulator first. have a good day !! the regulator if bad will cause an instant drop in fuel pressure when turned off. and it will cause a delay in building sufficient fuel pressure,.when starting.

Vehicle starts then stalls out like it is out of gas then will not start. let sit for awhile then starts and runs for a minute or so then stalls out again.

Sounds as if your fuel pump is not operating correctly are has gone on the fritz. Of course it also could be your fuel line filter has been clogged up to the point of not letting the fuel flow. I changed two fuel pumps in a ford until I checked the fuel line filter and found it clogged. What it would do was to start and run at low speeds for a few miles, but when I accelerated it would force the gunk in the fuel line filter up to the end and block the gas flow. When I would let it sit for about ten minutes, gravity took over and settled the gunk in the lower part of the filter and fuel would flow as long as the fuel pressure was low.

Check the fuel filter first, then the fuel pump. I think that all of the fuel pumps are now in the gas tank and is a dickens to replace.
